The Samsung NX10 is the one of the new kids on the hybrid camera block. Like Micro Four Thirds cameras from Panasonic and Olympus, the NX10 features a DSLR-sized sensor, but offers full time live view and no optical viewfinder (but rather an electronic viewfinder).
However, the Samsung NX10 features a larger sensor than the Micro Four Thirds cameras. In fact, the NX10’s imaging sensor is about the same physical size as the one found in the Canon Rebel T2i.

The Impact EX100A is a basic 100 watt monolight that’s available from B&H Photo. The EX100A is also available in a 2 monolight kit with 24″ softboxes, an umbrella, light stands and a carry case.
The EX100A 2-light kit was my first experience with using monolights, and for the $200 I spent on it, I have been pretty pleased. Sure, it’s not AlienBees, Elinchrom or anything fancy, but not everyone needs (or can afford) those brands. [Read more…]

The Sony A850 and A900 are full frame cameras that pack in 24.6-megapixels on that big sensor. The cameras appear at the top-end of the Alpha system line up. At first blush, the A850 appears almost identical to the pricier Sony A900. After delving deeper into the A850, you’ll discover that there’s really not a whole lot of difference between it and the A900.

Not long ago, I completed my field review test of the Cotton Carrier. After creator Grant Vetters read my review, he admitted to a manufacturing flaw that made the camera hard to unholster. Grant sent me another unit to test and this time I’ve achieved different results.
Recently, I’ve been getting to know the new Sony A500 and A550 DSLRs, which feature 12.3-megapixel and 14.2-megapixel Exmor CMOS sensors, respectively. Sony has hyped these consumer-grade DSLRs as low-light and low noise shooters thanks to their BIONZ image processing. Both cameras cover a sensitivity range of ISO 200-12800, which is a pretty bold spec for cameras priced under $1000.
