Tokina 16-28mm T3.0 Cinema Lens Unveiled for EF and PL Mounts

September 24, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Tokina 16-28mm Cine Lens

Tokina has announced a new cinema lens – the 16-28mm T3.0 cine lens. It has its optical roots in the popular Tokina AT-X 16-28mm f/2.8 PRO lens. Of course, the cine version is kitted out with standard gearing for the focus and aperture rings.

Additionally, the new cine lens gets a substantially higher price tag. In Japan, it retails for ¥580,000, which is slightly less than $6,000 when converted to US dollars. That would make it close to 10x more expensive than Tokina’s standard AT-X 16-28mm f/2.8 PRO lens.

The PL-mount version of the lens should ship sometime in September, while the EF-mount option is expected to be available in November. Stay tuned for official pricing and availability.

Cyber Week Continues with Deals on Tokina Lenses, Benro Tripod & More

December 1, 2010 By Eric Reagan

Amazon is pushing well past Cyber Monday with a whole week of deals on a variety of products.  Just browsing through today’s “Lightning Deals” – it’s serving up deals on the Tokina 16.5-135mm lens in Canon and Nikon mounts (starting at 9:20AM ET), a Benro tripod and monopod, with more to be revealed throughout the day.

If you aren’t familiar with Lightning Deals, they are limited availability products that are reduced in price (sometimes significantly) for only a short period of time (usually 1-4 hours if the stock lasts that long).  You can check them out on Amazon’s Cyber Week page and you’ll get a feel for how the deal system works.

Tokina Adds AF Motors for Nikon

September 24, 2008 By Thursday Bram

Tokina has announced that it will adding in-lens autofocus motors to its Nikon-mount versions. This change will enable autofocus for the budget D40, D40x and D60 bodies. Tokina will start by adding the new motors to the AT-X Pro SD 12-24mm F4 (IF) DX wideangle lens — the new lens will have a ‘II’ tacked on the end. Tokina is exhibiting a motorized version of this lens at Photokina and will be updating other lenses in its lineup in the future.

Tokina has also announced that it will be delaying the recently announced AT-X M35 PRO DX for the Canon. The release date has been pushed back to late January because of development difficulties with the focus system. The Nikon version is unaffected and on schedule.
