The Manfrotto 501HDV is a dedicated video fluid head. As camera manufacturers add more and more DSLRs with HD video capture, photographers’ interest in video seems to be growing at an exponential rate. I know my interest has been piqued since I picked up a 5D Mark II roughly a year and a half ago. HeliVideo Provides Unique Aerial Video With a Canon 7D
Eric Austin has cooked up the above contraption, which is an electric, radio-controlled helicopter with a Canon 7D mounted on it. With his HeliVideo he’s providing his commercial clients with unique still and video shots.

iDC Run & Gun for the Canon Rebel T2i
Bruce Dorn, over at the iDC Photo and Video blog, has announced the new iDC Run & Gun kit for the Canon Rebel T2i. The iDC Run & Gun kits, as the name implies, are designed for lightweight and mobile video capture with HDSLRs such as the Rebel T2i, 7D and 5D Mark II.
The Rebel T2i Run & Gun kit includes a follow focus and loupe, as well as the underlying mount for tying the kit together. The full kit will set you back $488 in the iDC Photo Store. Here’s the link.

Canon 5D Mark II Firmware Version 2.0.4 Available
After posting firmware version 2.0.3 earlier this week, a problem with the 5D Mark II video recording capabilities was apparent. As a result, Canon has posted firmware version 2.0.4 for the 5D Mark II, which aims to address that issue. [Read more…]

Animoto Quickstart Plays Nice With Other Sites and Services
Animoto, the unique, automatic video creation service, has announced a new service at WPPI today, called “Quickstart,” which will allow other photo and video sites or services to integrate seamlessly with Animoto. White House Custom Colour, ProSelect and SmugMug are some of the key partners to sign on to use the new Quickstart service, and allow their users to initiate Animoto projects from their existing photo and video assets on those sites.

Canon 5D Mark II Firmware Update Version 2.0.3
Canon has provided further details on the new Canon 5D Mark II firmware, which will be available for download later this month. The new firmware version 2.0.3 will enable the Canon 5D Mark II to capture 1080p video at 24fps (actual 23.976fps) and will change the 30fps rate to NTSC standard 29.97fps. The 5D Mark II will also be able to capture 1080p video at the PAL standard of 25fps. Additional tweaks include an histogram display for shooting movies in manual exposure, shutter-priority and aperture-priority, manual control over sound recording levels and a broadcast standard audio sampling frequency.
