The new Tokina AT-X 14-20mm f/2 PRO DX lens is now available for pre-order with a solid price tag of $899 and should begin shipping in February.
Rivaling the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 in the “wide & bright” category, the new lens is the first Tokina zoom lens with a max f/2 aperture. It is constructed of 13 lens elements in 11 groups and features a 9-blade aperture and an 82mm filter size. Check it out here at B&H Photo.
Leica announced today the new X-U (Typ 113) underwater camera, which essentially the underwater version of the existing Leica X (Typ 113) camera. Familiar specs for the new Leica X-U include a 16.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor and a fixed Leica Summilux 23mm f/1.7 ASPH. lens. [Read more…]
It seems that GoPro just can’t catch a break lately. After whiffing on the launch of the HERO4 Session, GoPro was subsequently sued by Polaroid because the Session rips off the Polaroid Cube‘s design. Then, GoPro had to drop the HERO4 Session price down to half the original retail price in order to move a few units during the holidays. Of course, holiday 2015 sales turned out woefully inadequate and GoPro is now restructuring and laying off employees. Of course, GoPro’s stock is in freefall and now shareholders are filing class action suits against GoPro because they think GoPro has been too optimistic about future sales.
In the midst of all of this turmoil, GoPro was sued by Contour, the bastard of the action camera industry, for patent infringement. [Read more…]
For years, we’ve been talking about deals on gray market cameras and we’ve now encountered some controversy among at least one major camera company and retailers offering gray market cameras for sale to consumers. So, I figured it was time to get more specific about what the term gray market means to us all as consumers. Specifically, I’ll be focusing on US consumers since that is the law with which I am familiar.

Sony unveiled the FDR-AX53 Handycam at CES 2016 to add it to the company’s growing 4K lineup. The AX53 features a new 20x optical zoom lens (26.8-536mm equivalent) with advanced aspherical (AA) and Extra-low Dispersion (ED) lens elements that allow it to produce a crisp, high resolution image within a compact size.
