Canon PowerShot G17 Rumored for May Unveiling with Bigger Sensor & Massive Lens

March 31, 2014 By Eric Reagan

Canon PowerShot G16

The Canon Powershot G16 is rumored to get a refresh in May 2014, which is a rather short life for a camera just announced in August 2013. That said, the G16 was a minor upgrade to the G15.

If an upgrade for the G16 is coming this quickly, it should be something significant. And, if there is truth to the rumored specs, it will be. Check them out below. [Read more…]

Canon Has Made 250 Million Digital Cameras Since 1995

March 31, 2014 By Eric Reagan

IMG_0108

Canon announced last week that it has manufactured 250 million digital cameras since it first introduced the EOS DCS 3 to the market in 1995.

Notably though, it didn’t pass the 100 million unit mark until 2008 – back when the 40D and Rebel XSi were hot stuff, and just as the 5D Mark II was introduced. In 5 short years, Canon broke the 200 million unit mark in December 2013. Just over a month later, on January 31, 2014, Canon hit the 250 million threshold thanks to an introduction of several new compact cameras like the PowerShot G1 X Mark II and PowerShot N100. Canon also points out that 50 million of those digital cameras are interchangeable lens cameras, which would encompass EOS DSLRs, mirrorless and cinema cameras.

Canon has since introduced the Rebel T5 and we expect at least a couple more DSLRs this year, along with several more point and shoot cameras.

You can read the full press release from Canon below. [Read more…]

Canon EOS Cinema Servo Zoom Lens Coming to NAB?

March 30, 2014 By Eric Reagan

Canon Servo Zoom Cinema Lens

NAB is just over a week away and there have been no reliable rumors or leaks of new cameras from Canon yet. It’s looking like we won’t see a new Canon EOS Cinema camera at NAB 2014. However, a new screenshot has surfaced showing off what appears to be a new lens for the Canon EOS Cinema line – this one with a servo zoom ring. [Read more…]

Nikon to Replace D600 Cameras with New Models If Cleaning/Repair Doesn’t Work

March 30, 2014 By Eric Reagan

Nikon D600

In the continuing saga of Nikon’s D600 dust spot debacle, Nikon has released another statement that it will replace users’ cameras if the dust spot problem continues after it has been serviced. Nikon states that the replacement will be “a new D600 or an equivalent model” (presumably, the D610).

This follows Nikon’s prior service advisory that it would replace the shutter assembly for free in affected Nikon D600 units. You can read the full release from Nikon below. [Read more…]
