Sony WX300 is a New Ultra-Compact Camera with a 20x Zoom

Vincent Laforet Works a Canon A2E and Lensbaby in DigitalRev’s Cheap Camera Challenge

DigitalRev’s Cheap Camera challenge is a hilarious tradition of pro shooters taking some of the cheapest cameras around and being challenged to come up with some great. Previous challenges have included Eric Wong with a pink point and shoot and Zack Arias with crappy Kodak compact and a single speedlight.

In this latest episode, Vincent Laforet (who is best known for taking a prototype 5D Mark II and shooting Reverie and, thereafter ushering in the HDSLR revolution) gets a Canon A2E film camera, a Lensbaby Composer and two rolls of ISO 400 film.

Sony Cyber-shot HX300 is a New 50x Superzoom

Sony recently unveiled its new Cyber-shot HX300 with a massive 50x zoom lens (24-1200mm equivalent). The camera features a 20.4MP Exmor R CMOS sensor and a 3-inch 921k-dot resolution LCD that tilts.

As you would expect on a camera with such a long reach, the HX300 provides optical stabilization. Additionally, the camera can capture 1080p HD video with stereo sound and can capture still images at 10fps. [Read more…]

Nikon Coolpix A is an APS-C Fixed Lens Camera

The Nikon Coolpix A is a new 16.2MP DX-format fixed lens camera. It sports a fixed 18.5mm f/2.8 lens (28mm equivalent) and offers a more modern design than other fixed lens cameras like the Fuji X100S.

  • 16.2-megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor
  • 18.5mm (28mm equivalent) prime lens with f/2.8 aperture
  • Quick AF performance (4 frames-per-second)
  • Multiple Scene Modes
  • Manual controls (P,S,A,M) and ability to capture RAW/NEF image files
  • Wi-Fi accessible with WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter

Several accessories will be available for the Coolpix A including the DF-CP1 Optical Viewfinder, the UR-E24 Adapter Ring for attaching lens hoods and filters, and the HN-CP18 metal Lens Hood.

Nikon’s New AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR Lens Unveiled

Nikon just announced its new FX format AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR lens. The revamped lens features a new optical formula with 20 elements in 12 groups including Super ED Glass Element and four ED glass elements.

The AF-S NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR lens should be available in April 2013 for around $2700. Check availability at B&H Photo, Adorama and Amazon.com.
