PocketWizard PlusX Introduced for $99

March 3, 2013 By Eric Reagan

PlusX

PocketWizard has introduced their most affordable radio trigger yet – the PlusX.

At $99, the PlusX has the same core features as what you will find in the more expensive PlusIII units. The PlusX has the same range and reliability specs as the Plus III; however, the interface is dumbed down a bit with a manual dial for changing the 10 standard channels (compared to 32 channels on the Plus III). These channels are compatible with other PocketWizard models and strobe units that are PocketWizard-enabled with built-in radios. [Read more…]

3 New Think Tank Photo Accessories Released

March 3, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Think Tank Photo Accessories

Think Tank Photo has released a trio of new photo accessories – the Low Rider Strap, the Limited Edition Pixel Pocket Rocket and the Pro DSLR Battery Holder.

The Low Rider Strap allows photographers to slip the split pad design over the handle of their rolling luggage and to haul two bags with a far lower and stable center of gravity.

The Limited Edition Pixel Pocket Rocket holds 10 CF cards while keeping them safe and organized.

The Pro DSLR Battery Holder is a soft, compact case for photographers carrying two pro-size camera batteries for either Canon or Nikon bodies.

New Olympus PEN Taking on New “PEN F” Design?

March 3, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Olympus PEN F

New rumors over at Photo Rumors point to an upcoming Olympus PEN Micro Four Thirds model that will follow closely to the design of the old PEN F film camera. Additional rumors suggest a built-in viewfinder, which would be a welcomed feature on the mirrorless model.

No other details on specs are being tossed around at this time; however, such a camera would presumably reside at the top of the PEN line-up while the E-PM and E-PL series rounded out the low- and mid-range PEN options. It’s been a couple of years since we’ve seen a new top-level camera in the PEN series (the E-P3 in 2011, which is now discontinued).

Reasonable expectations for a release time frame would be Summer 2013.

Why Do McDonald’s Burgers Look Different in Ads vs. What We Buy?

March 2, 2013 By Eric Reagan

why-do-mcdonalds-burgers-look-so-different-in-adverts

Do you ever see a McDonald’s ad and wonder what those big, thick burgers are made with . . . particularly given the flat burgers you get out of a McDonald’s to-go bag?

It has to be a different kind of meat, buns and toppings, right?

Actually, it’s all about the photography and prepping those same ingredients for the photo shoot. [Read more…]

Tascam iM2X iPhone Stereo Mic for $39.99 – Deal Alert

February 28, 2013 By Eric Reagan

 Tascam iM2X

The Tascam iM2X stereo condenser mic for the iPhone is only $39.99 right now at B&H (reg. $79.98). The iM2X records in 16-bit / 44.1 kHz through the free Tascam linear PCM recorder app and supports the iPhone 4, 4S and iPads through the third-gen.

This price has probably dropped due to the new lightning connectors on current iOS devices, but it’s still a solid deal if you are using an iPhone 4S/4 or an prior-gen iPad. Check it out here at B&H Photo.
