‘Witness’ is a new 4-part documentary from HBO and executive producers Michael Mann and Davide Frankham. It follows combat photographers into conflict zones in Mexico, Libya, South Sudan and Brazil. The next episode airs tonight at 9pm ET.

B&H now has the Fuji XF1 retro point and shoot camera in stock. As noted in my hands-on time with the camera, the XF1 features a unique lens twist/pull function to power the camera on, as well as a rotating zoom feature for the lens.
The Fuji XF1 is available in black, red and tan, all of which are currently in stock here at B&H Photo.
ColorStrokes HD is a new app for the iPad and iPad mini that allows you to desaturate images and leave only certain colors in the image. Or, you can even recolor the entire image.
ColorStrokes HD is only $1.99 in the iTunes App Store. There is also a desktop version available in the Mac App Store.
Perfectly Clear’s Version 3 of its iOS app is out and includes a software fix for the purple lens flare problem on the iPhone 5.
On its own, the Perfectly Clear app is a great little editing app for the iPhone that gives you solid results from a single click. It’s quite similar to the Awesomize feature in SmugMug’s Camera Awesome app – and for good reason . . . Camera Awesome’s Awesomize is powered by Perfectly Clear’s technology.
One of the things that sets Perfectly Clear’s app apart, however, is the one-click De-Purple setting that allows you to remove the oh-so-common purple lens flare from the iPhone 5 images. Unified Color has announced availability of their HDR Express 2 software, which further simplifies the HDR photography process to a point that promises users of any skill level first-time success when creating 32-bit color HDR images. The new HDR Express 2 features “Adaptive Tone Mapping” algorithms that further improve contrast, color, and detail retention in the highlight areas of large dynamic range images, while also maintaining optimal contrast and color in darker areas of image. I haven’t really used a K-mount camera that much since my old Ricoh KR-5 Super II that I used religiously a couple decades ago as my first SLR camera. As a result, my exposure to Pentax gear is generally limited to what I see at trade shows. Stepping aside . . . ain’t it a bit ironic that Ricoh now owns Pentax when it previously used Pentax’s K-mount to make K1000 clones like the KR-5 Super II?
With that nostalgia out of the way, I took a closer look at the new Pentax K-5 II and K-5 IIs at the Pentax booth at PhotoPlus 2012. At first blush, I love the way the camera feels in the hand, along with a very intuitive control and menu scheme. [Read more…]

Here’s an interesting pair that I came across at the Pentax booth at PhotoPlus 2012. That’s the Pentax Q10 paired to the K-mount Pentax DA 560mm F5.6 ED lens via the Adapter Q. The odd combo results in a roughly 3080mm reach compared to a full frame camera, which is due to the small 1/2.3″ sensor found inside the Pentax Q10.
