Apple iPad, Photos and Camera Connectivity

Apple iPad

The Apple iPad is a newly-announced tablet device that comes down somewhere in between an iPhone and a netbook in terms of its features and interface.  There is plenty of buzz, both love and hate, for the new device.

One of the features that may attract some photographers is a built-in app called Photos.  Bear in mind though that the iPad does not offer a built-in camera, oddly enough.  However, the app for organizing, importing and sharing photos is worth a look on its own merit. [Read more…]

DxO Optics Pro v6.1.2 for Windows

DxO has updated DxO Optics Pro to version 6.1.2 for Windows.  The updated software adds support for the following cameras:

– Pentax K-7
– Sony Alpha DSLR-A500
– Sony Alpha DSLR-A550
– Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3
– Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1

Photography Basics: Shutter Speed

In our last Photography Basics article, we took a look into the basic principles of aperture and lens speed.  We learned that the aperture of a lens is a critical component to a properly exposed photograph and powerful composition tool.  In this article we are going to examine the fundamentals of shutter speed and how it will affect your images.

Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3 Announced

Corel has announced the latest version of its PaintShop software for digital image post-processing.  PaintShop Photo Pro features a new organizer for rating and tagging photos, as well as RAW image conversion, along with a number of other features.  The new software retails for $100. Nikon ViewNX and Transfer Software Updated

Nikon has updated ViewNX to version 1.5.2 and Nikon Transfer to version 1.5.2 for Mac and version 1.5.3 for Windows.

Several compatibility issues for Mac OS X version 10.6.2 and Windows 7 have been added, as well as other updates and bug fixes.

“Chicken vs. Penguin” Wins $100,000 from Nikon

Nikon just announced the winners of the Nikon Festival contest, which was searching for the best short film in an effort to promote new Nikon DSLRs with D-Movie functionality.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7

The Panasonic DMC-ZS7 is a 12.1-megapixel point and shoot camera with a 12x zoom lens and optical image stabilization.  The ZS7 also features built-in GPS that embeds photos and videos with longitude and latitude details.

The ZS7 is compatible with new SDXC cards and provides HD video recording in AVCHD Lite format.  The ZS7 also boasts a new Sonic Speed AF system for fast AF acquisition and a quick shutter response time.
