Adobe CC and CS6 Compatibility with OS X Mavericks

October 23, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Apple OS X Mavericks

Apple released OS X Mavericks yesterday. I’m not going to cover all of the new features. It’s free though and there are several things I do like (e.g., tabbed Finder, and Menu Bar/Dock available on all screens); however, one of the first things photographers want to know before upgrading to a new OS is whether there are compatibility issues with photo editing software.

I’ve used Lightroom 5 in OS X Mavericks and have no problems at all with it thus far. Additionally, Adobe released a statement regarding its CC and CS6 apps. In short, everything should work fine (except After Effects requires an update). The full statement is below. [Read more…]

Apple Updates iMac Line for Fall 2013

October 1, 2013 By Eric Reagan

iMac

Apple updated its iMac line with a rather modest refresh. Key new specs include an update to fourth generation Intel quad-core processors – i5 is the base offering on all models; however, it is upgradeable to i7 processors up to 3.5Ghz.

Video editors will be pleased with the upgraded graphics cards, including the ability to upgrade to a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M with 4GB of video memory. However, the displays did not receive the 4K/Retina upgrade that had been rumored and hoped-for in recent months. [Read more…]

iPhone 5s and 5c: What Photographers Need to Know

September 11, 2013 By Eric Reagan

iPhone 5s

Yesterday, Apple announced a pair of new iPhones – the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c.

The iPhone 5s is the new flagship handset, while the iPhone 5c packs in a lot of power and comes several colors for a good price.

The highlights, as I see them, are that the iPhone 5s has a faster 64-bit A7 processor, new camera with f/2.2 aperture (vs. f/2.4 in the 5c) and 120fps video capture for slow motion. The big advantage for the iPhone 5c is that you get a 32GB phone for $199 on contract (the 16GB version is only $99).

Now, let’s take a look at more specifics about the iPhone 5s. [Read more…]
