August 14, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Canon SX160 IS

Canon SX160 IS

It looks like a pair of Canon’s new point and shoot models have found their way onto the web a little early.  The Canon PowerShot SX160 IS looks to feature a 16MP sensor along with a 16x optical zoom lens.  This should replace the current PowerShot SX150 IS, which sports a 14MP sensor, 12x zoom and 720p video. Canon 6D Full Frame DSLR Due in October?

August 9, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Canon 6D Rumors

The lastest rumors of Canon’s lower-priced full frame DSLR suggests a Canon EOS 6D badge and an October unveiling date. Additional rumors emphasize that the focus is on making the full frame camera not only more affordable but also a smaller overall package.

Previous rumors suggested this camera would essentially work out to be a full frame version of the Canon 7D with a 22MP CMOS sensor and a sub-$2000 price point.

Canon 6D Rumored Specs

  • 7D style AF system (19 pt) and VF LCD
  • 7D metering
  • Single Digic 5+
  • 3.9 fps
  • 3 inch LCD
  • 51200 max ISO
  • sub – $2000 price point at introduction

All of these rumors appear to be leading up to yet another massive throwdown between Canon’s budget full frame shooter and the Nikon D600.  Expect more coverage on the Canon 6D (or whatever it ends up being named) as we creep up on Photokina 2012 and PhotoPlus 2012.

New Canon Radio Transmitting Speedlite Soon?

August 6, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Canon 600EX-RT

After the long-awaited Canon 600EX-RT was announced alongside the Canon 5D Mark III earlier this year, we knew it would only be a matter of time before Canon dropped more radio transmitting Speedlites in the lineup.  Now, Canon Rumors has word that a 430EX II replacement is inbound for possibly a Fall 2012 announcement.

For those not ready to cough up nearly $60o for the 6ooEX-RT Speedlite, a 430EX II replacement should come with a more enthusiast-friendly price tag (likely in the $300-$400 price range).  Perhaps we’ll see an unveiling of the new flash at or around Photokina 2012.

Stay tuned.

“Departure Date” Shot with the Canon C300 at 35k Feet on a Plane Full of Passengers

August 1, 2012 By Eric Reagan

The Canon EOS C300 cinema camera recently made history when it was used to shoot “Departure Date,” the first movie almost entirely shot on airliners in flight.  The 24-minute short film was shot over 9 days across 3 continents covering 28,000 miles while flying at 35,000 feet on planes carrying real passengers.

Sounds like a recipe for disaster…

Somehow though, they made it work and the film premiered at the L.A. Film Festival on June 17, 2012.

July 31, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Canon 200-400mm f/4L IS USM

I heard back from Jeff Cable on his experience shooting with the Canon EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM lens on his Canon 1D X.  Here’s what he had to say:

Canon EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM in Use at Olympics

July 30, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Canon 200-400mm

Canon apparently has some loaners of the upcoming EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM lens on hand at the Olympics.  The development of this lens was announced alongside the official unveiling of the new EF 500mm F/4L IS II USM and EF 600mm F/4L IS II USM lenses – both of which are now starting to trickle into commercial availability.

As I was reading Jeff Cable’s update from London today, I noticed that he dropped by the Canon loan desk to borrow one of these new lenses.

I contacted Jeff to see what his thoughts are on the lens; however, I know he’s busy over there and it may be a few days before I hear back.  In the mean time, you can follow Jeff’s action in London over on his blog.

Hopefully, this is a good sign for the availability of this lens and Canon will begin shipping it out to the mass market sooner rather than later.

Stay tuned.

More Canon Low-End Full Frame DSLR Rumors

Canon Full Frame 7D Mark II Rumors

Northlight Images has received some new information concerning a cheaper full frame Canon DSLR. Rumors suggest either an 18MP sensor or a 22MP sensor, which leads to further speculation of a repurposed Canon 1D X or Canon 5D Mark III sensor, respectively.

Additional specs make the new model look a lot more like a full frame iteration of the Canon 7D, as opposed to the 5D Mark III.  A smaller overall body design with a built-in flash would make it more of a prosumer design.

Other rumored features are as follows: [Read more…]

New Canon EF 100-400mm f/4-5.6L IS Lens Coming Soon?

July 26, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Canon 100-400mm Lens

Canon Rumors recently got word that a new EF 100-400 f/4-5.6L IS lens could be announced around Photokina 2012.  The current 100-400mm model is getting a little long in tooth and is known as a dust sucker thanks to the push-pull zoom barrel.

The new model is rumored to carry an f/4-5.6 range – instead of the current f/4.5-5.6 aperture range.  Additional rumors have included the possibility of a twist-zoom barrel instead of the current push-pull design.
