CineSquid Suction Mount for Gorillapods and DSLRs

February 23, 2012 By Eric Reagan

The guys behind CineSkates are at it again with CineSquid – a trio of suction cups designed for use in tandem with the Gorillapod Focus tripod.

As you can see from the video above, there are plenty of uses for sticking your 5lb or less DSLR kit on various surfaces for some less-than-ordinary shots.

Magic Bullet Looks Now Works with Final Cut Pro X

February 6, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Magic Bullet Looks FCP X

I neglected to note this last week when I wrote about the Final Cut Pro X version 10.0.3 upgrade; however, one of the many fixes provided in the update was a hurdle that Red Giant had with implementing Magic Bullet Looks in Final Cut Pro X.

I’ve been using Magic Bullet Mojo with FCP X since it was released.  Simple, clean and smooth integration with the FCP X interface.  Now that Looks is integrated with FCP X, I’ll be using it on some upcoming projects.  In what little I’ve played around in it, I’ve been overly pleased with the interface.  I’ll let you know if there are any problems as I use it more, and I welcome your thoughts as well.  So far though, so good.

Magic Bullet Looks is only $199 through tomorrow, Feb. 7 (that’s half off).  Coupon code LOOKSFCPX50 required. The FCP X Looks upgrade is free for existing Looks users.

Check out the video from Red Giant below. [Read more…]

1000fps on Canon 550D with Twixtor

February 2, 2012 By Eric Reagan

The above video was captured with a Canon Rebel T2i (aka 550D), along with the nifty-fifty 50mm f/1.8, 18-55mm kit lens and Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 lens, and it was edited using Premiere Pro, After Effects and Twixtor.

Rode VideoMic HD Brings Serious Audio to HDSLRs

January 20, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Rode VideoMic HD

The thing about shooting video with HDSLRs is the necessity of using a dual system for audio.  I’ve tried several mics that plug-in to the 5D’s mic port and there are many good ones; however, none replace the quality you get from an external recorder and a shotgun mic (my favorite being the Rode NTG-3).

Even if you’re rolling with something small like a Zoom H4n, you need a couple of mounting points for the recorder and mic, which needs to be in a shock mount to avoid noise from camera handling or cords tapping against your gear.  Now, that simple little HDSLR run-and-gun kit looks like your TV’s cable box vomited on top of your camera.  And, you’d better not forget to hit record twice (camera and H4n) before you call ‘action’ (*raises hand). New ‘Act of Valor’ Trailer Polishes the 5D’s Resume

November 13, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Act of Valor

I just talked about ‘Like Crazy’ a couple of days ago, which was shot on the Canon 7D and is out in theaters now.  And now, Relativity Media, which picked up ‘Act of Valor‘ for a cool $13M earlier this year, just released the second trailer for the film.  As you may already know, Act of Valor was shot primarily with the Canon 5D Mark II and a combination of Zeiss and Panavision lenses – with Shane Hurlbut, ASC serving as DP on the film.

I have embedded the trailer below.  (Sorry, but autoplay is forced on for the trailer embed.) [Read more…]
