The guys behind CineSkates are at it again with CineSquid – a trio of suction cups designed for use in tandem with the Gorillapod Focus tripod.

As you can see from the video above, there are plenty of uses for sticking your 5lb or less DSLR kit on various surfaces for some less-than-ordinary shots.

Canon 5D Mark III Specs Confirmed? Official on Feb. 27?

Canon Rumors is predicting next week as a for sure thing for the Canon 5D Mark II replacement. Presumably, it will be called the 5D Mark III; however, there have been rumblings that Canon will go with the 5D X name and apparently play off the recent release of the 1D X.

Sony’s long-teased (over 2 years now) 500mm f/4 super-telephoto lens is finally available for pre-order. According to B&H Photo’s listing, it is set to ship around April 23, 2012.
Olympus E-PL1 for $274.99 – Deal Alert
Here’s a great bargain right now on the Olympus E-PL1 with a 14-42mm lens for $274.99 at Amazon, along with free shipping. When the E-PL1 was first introduced, it cost $600 for this kit. This is a steal of a deal.
This is likely a closeout of stock, so there’s no telling how long this will last. Note, you can also find a used, but good condition, stock of the E-PL1 at B&H for a few bucks less.

Sony Set to Launch an APS-C G1 X Competitor?

Sony Alpha Rumors is pegging a compact Sony APS-C camera that will go head-to-head with the Canon G1 X. Reportedly, the camera would use a pancake zoom lens to keep the size down.
I think Sony has a great thing going with the NEX line. So, I’m very interested to see what such a camera could add to Sony’s lineup. If anything, I think a fixed-lens camera seems more accessible to a larger market. This isn’t necessarily in terms of price (the Canon G1 X isn’t cheap), but rather in terms of perceived user experience. [Read more…]
Nikon D800 Dealer Pricing Revealed

Nikon Rumors uncovered an interesting little tidbit regarding the dealer pricing of the Nikon D800 in the US.
The D800 that your dealer sells to you for $3000 cost the dealer $2700, while the D800E sells for $3300 and cost the dealer $2970 – a markup of 11% and 10%, respectively. Accessories, however, are a different ball game altogether…
