Earlier in the year, Photography Bay launched a free forum for its readers. Unfortunately, it has been a target for spammers who register fake profiles and try to trade off Photography Bay’s traffic in order to get links and traffic to their shady operations.
As a result, I decided to manually review and approve all registrations and have been backlogged with hundreds of spam profiles to review, in addition to the many legitimate registrations.
I have gotten emails from some of you asking what is taking so long for your profile to be approved. The easiest way to get your registration approved is to send me an email at: contact@photographybay.com and let me know you’re waiting.
I will respond to these registration emails immediately.
I have also included these notes on the forum in an easy-to-find location for future registrants.
Finally, if anyone has suggestions on better ways to cut down on forum spam, I’m all ears. Feel free to email me at the above address or send a message via the contact form.

I picked up a Glidecam 2000 a couple of months ago after talking with the Glidecam guys at NAB. One of the operators at the booth gave me a short course in how to use it effectively, which turned out to be very helpful as I’ve been learning the ropes.
I haven’t arrived by any means, but I’ve started getting some pretty fun and usable shots with it. My church’s VBS was a couple of weeks ago and I took the opportunity to have a bit of live practice with it.
Below is the VBS recap video we had for the parents the Sunday after. [Read more…]

I’ve been trying out the Nikon Coolpix P500 for a couple of weeks or so now. Similar to its predecessor, the P100, the Nikon P500 captures VGA-quality video at 120fps and QVGA-quality at 240fps. While both are fun, I find the 120fps at VGA’s 640 x 480 resolution much more practical for sharing on TV sets or online.
Below is a short sample of some clips I shot at both frame rates. Note that the 240fps footage has been up-rezzed in post from its native 320 x 240 resolution to standard VGA 640 x 480 resolution in order to match the 120fps frame size.
Check it out below. [Read more…]

The above image is purportedly another leaked product shot of the upcoming NEX-5N mirrorless camera.
The NEX-5N is expected to be officially unveiled next week. It should feature a 16.1MP sensor and be capable of capturing 1080p HD video, among other impressive specs.

Check out the above video, which uses some lighting magic to make our photographic brains hurt. After you’ve watched it, can you explain why this illusion occurs? Leave a comment below.
