Sony A99 at 24MP and A57 at 16MP Inbound?
It’s been a little too quiet on the Sony front since the introduction of the uber-popular Sony A77. So, it’s not really much of a surprise to hear rumors of a refresh to the full-frame Sony A900 and (even more so) the consumer-ish Sony A55. Both are very solid cameras in their respective categories; however, their age is starting to show. [Read more…]

Sony A35 and NEX-C3 Announcement on June 3
It looks like the über-leaky new Sony cameras will be showing up in a couple of weeks if Photo Rumors‘ sources are right. June 3 is the slated date for the new A35 SLT camera, which replaces the Sony A33.
Alongside the new SLT (translucent mirror camera), Sony is expected to launch its next NEX camera – the Sony NEX-C3, which sports an articulating LCD and a tiny body. The new (and also leaky) 30mm f/3.5 E-mount lens and NEX flash should debut on June 3 as well.

Sony A77 Announcement in July, Shipping October?
More word of the Sony A700-replacement is trickling out. This time, SonyAlphaRumors cites “trusted sources” that confirm a July announcement for the Sony A77 translucent mirror camera and an October 6, 2011 ship date for the camera.
While none of this is set in stone, it correlates with earlier statements from Sony that we’ll get a Summer 2011 announcement for the camera. Additionally, previous info from Sony indicates that the A77 (if that is in fact the new camera’ s name) is expected to be released alongside a new kit lens and prosumer-grade speedlight. Sony Reveals More About A700 Replacement, Coming Mid-2011
Sony has taken every opportunity over the past year or so to tease an A700 replacement. Such is the case again this week at CP+ in Japan.
In this case, however, Sony managed to give an idea of when it would be available. The yet un-named model that will replace the A700’s position in the Sony Alpha lineup will be available “mid-2011” according to the official word from Sony at CP+.
In addition to the new A700 successor, Sony is developing a new standard kit lens and a new hot shoe flash to pair with the prosumer camera. As we have already learned, the Sony prosumer model will feature Sony’s Translucent Mirror Technology (as found in the A55 and A33). The prosumer model, rumored to be called the A77, will also capture AVCHD in full 1920 x 1080 resolution. The camera will also feature an APS-C format sensor.
Sony A55 and A33 Announced
The Sony A55 and A33 are two new cameras that benefit from Translucent Mirror Technology (as Sony calls it), whereby the mirror does not move during video or image capture. This translucent mirror allows the A55 and A33 to continuously focus using the cameras’ fast “phase detection” AF sensors.
The A55 is capable of capturing up to 10 frames per second, while the A33 weighs in at 7 frames per second. Both cameras feature Sony’s Exmor APS HD CMOS sensors – 16.2MP for the A55 and 14.2 for the A33.
The cameras also feature a 3-inch 921k dot resolution LCD and a 100% coverage electronic viewfinder at 1.1x magnification. Because of the new translucent mirror technology, the A33 and A55 allow the use of the eye-level viewfinder while recording video – something no other DSLR has managed to do yet. Additionally, those looking forward to the film-making potential of these new cameras will appreciate the ability to add external mics via a 3.5mm mic-in port.
