Canon 1D X Mark II is All About Speed and Serious 4K Video Chops

February 1, 2016 By Eric Reagan

Canon Rumors 1dx2_1

[Update: The Canon 1D X Mark II has been officially announced. You can pre-order it here at B&H Photo.]

We are within a day or so of the official announcement from Canon; however, the key aspects of the official press release we expect to see just surfaced from Canon Rumors. It confirms the previous spec list we had seen leaked from Japan and suggests that this camera is a worthy successor to the 1D X. It’s also notable that it comes in at $5,999, which is $800 less than the original 1D X launched at.

Canon-1D-X-vs-Canon-1D-X-II-front

It features the previously-rumored 20.2MP full frame CMOS sensor that is “Canon-developed” (interesting wording). The standard sensitivity range is ISO 100-51,200 and can be expanded to ISO 50-409,600. For comparison sake, the Nikon D5‘s max native sensitivity is ISO 102,400 and the expanded sensitivity reaches up to ISO 3,280,000. Convergent Design has dropped the price of its Odyssey7Q+ to $1795 (was $2295), which slots it in between the competing Atomos Ninja Assassin and Shogun. It offers 4K capture over both the HDMI and SDI inputs.

Additionally, the Odyssey7Q+ offers the ability to upgrade to RAW recording options with compatible cameras via a paid upgrade from Convergent Design. You can find the Odyssey7Q+ at the new price point here at B&H Photo.
