This is some kind of New Year resolution for Canon – that is, if all these rumors come to light by the end of the year.
More juice on the Canon 5D Mark III suggests further that the camera would maintain a reasonable MP-count (if not the same as the Canon 1D X). The rumor mill also continues to churn on an announcement for the 5D Mark III in the next few months. For the record, my money is still on an announcement in time for the 2012 NAB Show.
In addition to the 5D Mark III, rumors are swirling that the infamous Canon 3D is a live project. No spec details other than to suggest that it is a “photographer’s camera.” What that means, I dunno. The simplest of guesses has me leaning toward no/minor video functionality, which would go hand-in-hand with earlier rumors of the 5D Mark III as a very video-centric camera.
Hmm? A 5D line as the video-focused line and a 3D line as the stills-focused line? The 3D name would tend to lead to less confusion if the camera didn’t have video capture at all… [Read more…]

Canon’s big tease has sparked a lot of commentary and speculation about what’s coming on its November 3rd announcement. While there are sure to be plenty of rumors, and maybe some leaks as we lead up to the big date, a GTC forum member apparently claimed to see the camera and its specs.
The rumored specs include two mount options – Canon EF mount and a PL mount. Additionally, the leakster claims that the camera sports a Super35 4K sensor.

Initially unveiled at NAB back in April, Sony has officially launched its F65 CineAlta camera, which offers 4K resolution captured to 16 bit Linear RAW files. These massive files will chew up plenty of storage – with 60 minutes taking up 1TB, or 1 minute using 17GB of storage space. [Read more…]
At NAB 2011 today, Sony took the wraps off of its new F65 CineAlta camera, which offers 16-bit 4K RAW capture at up to 72 fps. It will also shoot 2K resolution at 120 fps. The F65 is a serious pro-level filmmaking tool. It has an 8K sensor (approx. 20MP) in which a full half of the photosites in 4K output are green photosites – with the other half evenly split between red and blue. Sony says, “This is twice the amount of green resolution compared with traditional 4K Bayer pattern sensors, providing a significant improvement in image resolution that is ideal for VFX processing.”
The Sony F65 is the big brother to the recently-announced Sony PMW-F3, along with its junior sibling, the Sony NEX-FS100.

JVC presented a concept 4K2K “consumer” camcorder at CES 2011. Just looking at the camera though, I have a tough time classifying it as a consumer model. And while JVC was mum on a target price point, $2000 is about what I would put at the top-end of the consumer price range, which would seem to be a little low for a camera of this caliber. Last week, RED’s Jim Jannard provided an update to the EPIC’s serious firmware “bug issues” that had adversely affected the production schedule of the ambitious RED ONE followup. The bug has been killed and the production of the EPIC appears to be back on track. [Read more…]
