RED is Building 6K Dragon Cameras Live at NAB in a Custom-Built Clean Room
In what is probably the wildest thing I have seen thus far at NAB 2013, RED has built a ridiculous clean room for its engineers to perform Dragon camera builds on the show floor – complete with windows for spectators to watch the magic happen.
For a little background, EPIC and SCARLET owners also have the option to upgrade their cameras’ sensors to the 6K Dragon sensor for around $10k. The upgrade program has finally begun with quite the spectacle here at NAB 2013. The EPIC-M Dragon starts at $29k.

Sony Sues RED for Patent Infringement by RED ONE, EPIC and Scarlet Cameras
Round 2 ladies and gentlemen.
Recall a couple months back when RED initiated suit against Sony for patent infringement by Sony’s F65, F55 and F5 cinema cameras. RED wanted to literally have Sony’s cameras pulled from shelves and destroyed.
Now, it’s Sony’s turn.
On the eve of NAB 2013, Sony released a statement that it has filed suit against RED for infringing on seven of its patents. [Read more…]
RED Cameras Get Massive Price Drops . . . as Cheap as $4,000

Here’s how the new pricing breaks down: [Read more…]
RED Scarlet Gets Sub-$10K Price, Canon EF Lens Mount, 4K Motion
Following Canon’s announcement of the new EOS C300 cinema camera, RED announced details that the long-awaited Scarlet will be getting a 5K sensor, but will only capture 4K motion up to 25fps. The price is $9750.
To be clear, the Scarlet has the same sensor size and dimensions as the EPIC. The processing power, however, is where the limitations lie at. If you are shooting cinema at 24p though, this is the cheapest and highest resolution you’ll find by a long shot.
RED Scarlet “Is Now a Professional Camera”

RED Goes Head-to-Head with Canon’s Big Nov. 3 Announcement
It’s no secret that Canon is announcing something big on November 3. That “something” is expected to be some kind of pro-level cinema camera. Of course, we won’t know for sure until Nov. 3.
However, RED apparently knows enough to go head-to-head with Canon’s announcement. Jarred Land (aka Fire Chief at RED) posted news yesterday that RED’s Scarlet will ship before the end of the year. The RED faithful then exploded with follow-up posts seeking more details. [Read more…]
