September 23, 2009 By Eric Reagan

Fuji Instax Mini 7S Instant Camera

The Fuji Instax Mini 7S instant camera is becoming available in the US. The Instax cameras have been available overseas for many years.  While the professional market has had the Instax 200 instant camera since last year, consumers have been without many options in the instant film department, particularly since Polaroids have dried up.

The Instax Mini 7S  uses ISO 800 speed film and produces a 2″ x 3″ instant print.  It should be available September 2009 at an initial retail price of $95.99, while the film will retail for $19.99 for a 10-pack.  Check availability on Amazon.com.

Capturing Your Dog on Camera

July 28, 2009 By Chris Gampat

Hannah the Dog

For the dog lovers out there, you’ve got to be able to appreciate some of the expressions your dog makes and just how much dog photos make you smile. I consider my friend Geoff Fox, the meteorologist over at WNTH-TV to be an expert on the subject. Here are some tips from Geoff that I’ve learned and some tips that I’ve incorporated in from my own experience. [Read more…]

Olympus: There is Lots More to Come to M4/3rds

June 26, 2009 By Chris Gampat

Olympus E-P1

The Olympus EP-1 has received tremendous amounts of press since its release as the camera is truly the digital rangefinder that many people have been looking for. However, according to the British Journal of Photography via Photo Rumors there is both a pro Pen camera  and a lower grade Pen camera in development.

Olympus's Micro 4/3rd's camera

I shot the above photo at last year’s PhotoPlus Expo. It was the prototype of the EP-1, or at least it was supposed to be. Olympus said that it was the prototype of their Micro 4/3rds camera. However, they never said which one it was a prototype for. Could it possibly be the one that will be aimed more towards consumers? [Read more…]

Red Scarlet and Epic Announcements on November 13

October 28, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Red always stirs the pot when news of something new from the company comes along.

We will announce the new Scarlet and Epic programs on Thursday Nov. 13th.

I want to say that no one has any idea how incredible this announcement will be. Call this hype… please. I am quite sure that the announcement will be called a “scam”. Should be a lot of fun to hear the reactions. I can’t wait.

[via REDUser forum]

Still yet, this does not appear to be the “DSLR Killer” that Red has previously alluded to: [Read more…]

April 16, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Trusted Reviews has posted a review of the new Ricoh R8, which offers a 10 megapixel sensor and a 28-200mm equivalent zoom.

The Ricoh R8 is an expensive camera, but it does offer a unique specification and very distinctive style. Build quality is superb, and the design of the body and control interface makes it a real pleasure to use.

For more news and reviews for the Ricoh R8 and some nostalgic thoughts from yours truly, visit Photography Bay’s Ricoh R8 Reviews & Resources page.

Ricoh GR Digital II Review at Cnet

April 9, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Cnet has posted a review of the Ricoh GR Digital II.

The GR Digital II is a cute compact camera that might appeal to street photographers looking to step away from a rangefinder and into digital, but doesn’t deliver the features, performance, or image quality it should given its steep price tag.

For the latest news and reviews, be sure to check out Photography Bay’s Ricoh GR Digital II Reviews and Resources page.
