Canon’s 6D Mark II Just Plain Sucks

I was so pumped when the Canon 6D Mark II rumors were pouring out and when it was announced. Then, early reports concerned me about the image quality; however, I was also a little hopeful that the numbers and charts wouldn’t necessarily reflect real world experience. Canon Has Produced 90 Million EOS Cameras & 130 Million Lenses

The latest milestone numbers for Canon reminds us of just what a behemoth that Canon really is. Since first EOS 650 SLR rolled off the line in 1987 and, since then, Canon has produced 90 million EOS film and digital cameras and 130 million EF lenses. A Canon EOS 5D Mark IV DSLR Camera was the 90 millionth EOS Series camera produced, while an EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM Ultra-Wide Zoom Lens was the Company’s 130 millionth interchangeable lens. Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III puts a DSLR in a Compact Camera

The newly-announced Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III is a new step for Canon with the flagship of its G-series line checking all the boxes of a DSLR in a very compact package. The 15-45mm lens offers a 24-72mm equivalent field of view on the APS-C format sensor with a variable aperture starting at a bright f/2.8 on the wide end.

The G1 X Mark III also has Canon’s highly regarded Dual Pixel CMOS AF, which provides solid performance for still image and video capture. It has a reasonable sensitivity range of ISO 100-25,600, which is also comparable to entry-level DSLRs like the recent entries in the Canon Rebel series. Throw in 1080/60p video capture and 7fps still shooting with AF tracking and you have a respectable imaging machine in your hands. [Read more…]

Canon 5DS Successor to Get a Mild Resolution Boost

According to Canon Rumors, the successor(s) to the popular Canon 5DS and 5DS R is not expected to receive a major jump in resolution. While the 5DS series jumped out from the 5D product line with a massive increase in resolution, the next iteration to the product line is expected to see less than a 20% increase for the already whopping 50.6MP sensor on the 5DS.

The new Canon 5DS Mark II (or whatever it is called) is expected to hit sometime in 2018. With Nikon’s new D850 (and its 45.7MP FX sensor) rolling in a ton of praise right now, what does Canon need to do with the 5DS line to gain the spotlight once again?
