FxFactory PRO v4 Video Effects Plug-in Review

March 12, 2013 By Eric Reagan

FxFactory PRO v4

FxFactory PRO v4 is a plug-in for popular NLE editors like Final Cut Pro X, FCP 7 and Premiere Pro CS6. I have been using FxFactory PRO v4 for a few months now in both FCP X and Premier Pro CS6. While it also works in After Effects and Motion, my use has been limited to NLEs.

FxFactory PRO v4 uses the FxFactory plug-in manager for installation and updates. I have used several plug-ins with FxFactory and find it to be one of the easiest installation processes to use with NLE plug-ins. [Read more…]

Voice-Driven Photo Editing from Adobe

February 13, 2013 By Eric Reagan

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2KeluYrHJk&w=640&h=360]

Check out the above video for a sneak peak on some of the work being done by Adobe Research and the University of Michigan. PixelTone is an experimental interface for image editing.

Photo editing can be a challenging task, and it becomes even more difficult on the small, portable screens of mobile devices that are now frequently used to capture and edit images. To address this problem we present PIXELTONE, a multimodal photo editing interface that combines speech and direct manipulation. We observe existing image editing practices and derive a set of principles that guide our design. In particular, we use natural language for expressing desired changes to an image, and sketching to localize these changes to specific regions.

You can read more on PixelTone in a 9-page research paper that documents the development of this multimodel interface.

Photo Mechanic 5

Photo Mechanic 5 is finally available as a full release.  Photo Mechanic has been the industry standard for image management in the photo journalist world for years.  Version 5 adds “significantly improved metadata handing capabilities” with all major IPTC fields supported.

Additionally, Camera Bits claims that it has made Photo Mechanic even faster, which sounds amazing given just how fast the prior version of Photo Mechanic is.

Photo Mechanic 5 is available for new users for $150.  Existing users can snag the upgrade for $90.  Additional sale prices are available at launch through August 20, 2012.  More details on Photo Mechanic’s website.

Final Cut Pro X Multicam Split Screen

July 12, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Tokyo Split Animator is a plugin for Final Cut Pro X that offers 19 split screen templates.  It allows you to animate-in and animate-out multiple clips; however, as you can see the above video, it also works quite well with multicam footage (something that works extremely well in FCP X) by easily allowing you to show all angles at once with a split screen animation.

Tokyo Split Animator is available through FX Factory for $49.  More details on Tokyo Split Animator’s website.
