Canon 60D Nearing Launch, Confirmed by DxO?

July 29, 2010 By Eric Reagan

DXO 60D

Rumors of a Canon 60D situated in the EOS lineup below the 7D have been stirring in recent months.  However, what appears to be an unintentional leak at DxO adds significantly more weight to those rumors.

While I would expect this page to be updated soon to remove the 60D references, DxO has its “roadmap” for DxO Optics Modules slating the 60D and a number of lenses on schedule for support in November/December 2010.

That would be about right for a camera released in August/September of this year.

Look for lots more on the Canon 60D as we approach Photokina 2010.

Extreme ISO Settings With the D3s, 1D Mark IV and Lightroom 3

June 25, 2010 By Eric Reagan

I’ve been digging into Lightroom 3 for a couple of days now.  I’m a big fan of the improvements – happy to see my video files, love the tethered shooting capability, as well as the improved speed. Last night, however, I decided to dig up some of my photos from the Canon 1D Mark IV and Nikon D3s ISO comparisons and take a closer look at the improved noise control that we’ve all heard so much about.

While I experienced a taste of what was to come in the Lightroom 3 beta, I was not prepared for the magnitude of improvement that I saw in the images as I wiped my Lightroom 2 adjustments and made new adjustments in Lightroom 3’s noise control panel.

I could go on and on about it, but you really need to see for yourself. [Read more…]

May 13, 2010 By Eric Reagan

The Canon EOS series started with the EOS 650 film camera in 1987 (that’s mine above).  Since then, Canon has produced 40 million EOS SLR cameras, 20 million of which have been digital.  While it took 10 years for Canon to produce its first 10 million EOS cameras, it has take less than 3 years to produce the last 10 million units.

Canon 7D Firmware Version 1.2.1

April 15, 2010 By Eric Reagan

Canon 7D

Canon has released a firmware update for the EOS 7D.  The new firmware version 1.2.1 includes the following updates and fixes:

  1. Extends the timing at which the high temperature warning indicator is displayed and the timing of automatic shut down of the camera due to a rise in internal temperature during Live View or EOS Movie functions.
  2. Optimizes program shift when the ISO setting of the camera is set to AUTO.
  3. Corrects a misspelling in the French-language menu.
  4. Corrects a phenomenon in which vertical magenta-colored banding appears in still images taken in movie-shooting mode.
(This only occurs when in Manual exposure mode and when the ISO speed is set to “H”. Note that this phenomenon only affects units with Firmware Version 1.2.0)

The firmware update can be downloaded from Canon’s website.
