Project X27: Export Final Cut Pro X Projects to FCP 7

October 25, 2011 By Eric Reagan

It looks like the folks over at Intelligent Assistance have figured out a way to translate FCP X projects into FCP 7 timelines.  Project X?7 is a $50 XML translator that takes your FCP X XML file and translates it into something that FCP 7 can understand.  Once in FCP 7, you can then take your project to a number of different applications, including Premiere Pro, which is the gateway to Dynamic Link with After Effects and other Adobe apps.

Project X?7 looks like a pretty solid plugin that appears to do what is asked of it.  Check out the screenshots below for a comparison of FCP X to FCP 7 projects. [Read more…]

Adobe Offering 50% Off for Final Cut Pro Switchers

July 2, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Adobe’s marketing machine is taking advantage of the Final Cut Pro X dilemma by enticing Final Cut Pro users with a 50% off discount of competing Adobe products and packages, including Premiere Pro CS5.5 and Production Premium CS5.5.  Adobe’s promo (shown above) takes a dig at Apple’s recent bad press with its switch slogan: “You’re a pro. Make sure your toolset is too.” [Read more…]

June 29, 2011 By Eric Reagan

If you’ve followed any of the news about Final Cut Pro X since its release, then you’ve probably heard some pretty nasty things.

Apple Final Cut Pro X Release Imminent Along with Thunderbolt Devices?

June 15, 2011 By Eric Reagan

While WWDC 2011 would have been a fitting time to launch Final Cut Pro X, Apple failed to do so.  According to the info we got from Apple at the sneak peek back in April, Final Cut Pro X is due to arrive in the Mac App Store this month.  Since the teaser though, it’s been all crickets from the mothership. Will Final Cut Pro X Be Officially Released at WWDC 2011?

June 4, 2011 By Eric Reagan

On Monday, June 6, WWDC 2011 kicks off in San Francisco with Steve Jobs on stage at 1PM ET.  Of course, the consumer topics of iCloud, iOS 5 and OS X Lion are at the top of the buzz list; however, those who have been waiting patiently (or, impatiently for some of us) since the Final Cut Pro X teaser in April may not have to wait much longer either. Is the Apple Store Blackballing Competitive Adobe Software?

April 30, 2011 By Eric Reagan

I was in the Apple Store a few days ago and wanted to try out After Effects on the new Core i7 MacBook Pro; however, it was nowhere to be found.  I was almost certain that I’ve used After Effects on Macs in the Apple store before – but it wasn’t on a single computer there.

It turns out though, that there are a number of professional Adobe software applications that are entirely absent from the Apple Store – either as demos on the display Macs or as boxed software available for purchase. [Read more…]

Canon Plug-in-E1 for Final Cut Pro Ver. 1.2 Now Available

April 25, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Canon 1D Mark IV

Version 1.2 of the Canon E1 plug-in for Final Cut Pro is available for download now.  The new version allows you to import files without the need to maintain the CF card folder structure.  It’s designed to work with the Canon 5D Mark II, 7D, 1D Mark IV and 60D.  I’ve heard unconfirmed reports that the new version will work with the Canon Rebel series DSLRs but nothing for certain yet.  For more details, see the original post here.

You can download it on product pages for Canon DSLRs.  Here’s a direct link to the 5D Mark II Drivers & Software page.  Just select Mac OS X as your OS and then choose the download link for the plug-in.

Atomos Ninja Hands-On

April 17, 2011 By Eric Reagan

I checked out a lot of cool new stuff at NAB 2011; however, one of the coolest pieces of tech that I got up close with was the new Atomos Ninja HDMI-based recorder.  In short, the Atomos Ninja captures the uncompressed stream from your camera’s HDMI output.  The stream is captured as Apple ProRes HQ in a much higher quality than what goes through your camera’s compression onto the CF or SD card.
