The 4K-shooting GoPro HERO3 Black Edition is now in stock at B&H. As a refresher, the HERO3 Black Edition was announced alongside a Silver and a White Edition. The Black Edition shoots 4K video (albeit at 12fps) and 2.7K video at a full 30p or 24p. Check it out here at B&H Photo.
GoPro’s mobile app is now available for use with GoPro HERO3 cameras. The app lets you control your HERO3 cameras’ settings + features. Additionally, you can live preview your shots for easier framing.
The recently announced GoPro Android App is now available for download. The new app features full control of all camera settings and remote viewfinder/preview on your Android device for shot framing.
It is currently compatible with Wi-Fi BacPac-enabled HERO2 cameras that have received the latest update from GoPro. Compatibility with the HERO3: White and Silver Edition should be coming this month, and compatibility for the HERO3: Black Edition should be available in December 2012.
You can download the new app here at the Google Play Store.
If you’ve ever had a cat, you’ve almost certainly spent an abnormal amount of time with a laser pointer in your hand as the cat chased it in futility. GoPro used some cats and laser pointers to show off its new GoPro HERO3 cameras and their powerful slow motion capabilities in its latest commercial, which you can see below.[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgKToPCIkNI&w=640&h=360]
The new GoPro HERO3: Black Edition serves as the flagship of the new lineup with up to 1440p at 48fps, 1080p at 60fps and 720p at 120fps, all of which aid in the slow motion prowess of the new camera.
B&H has the new GoPro HERO3 Silver Edition camera in stock and shipping. Check it out here at B&H Photo.
No doubt that there’s a lot of excitement surrounding the new GoPro Hero3, and for good reason. It’s the best specs we’ve seen on an action cam to date. Check out the above promo video for the Hero3 Black Edition, which contains footage 100% from the Black Edition.
It’s solid footage and a very solid edit through and through – and makes me want to go jump off a waterfall…
GoPro just revealed its Hero3 Black Edition action cam and really stepped up the game. The Hero3 is 30% smaller and 25% lighter than the Hero2 and it sports a 2x faster image processor. The Hero3 is the first action cam to shoot 4K video. Frame rates and resolutions include:
- 4K at 12fps
- 2.7K at 30/25/24fps
- 1440p at 48/30/35/24fps
- 1080p at 60/50/48/30/25/24fps
- 960p at 100/48fps
- 720p at 120/100fps
- 854x480p at 240fps
The GoPro Hero3 also includes built-in WiFi for control via remote or by using the GoPro iOS and Android apps. The Hero3 sports a sharper lens and reduced distortion, as well as improved sound over the Hero2.
There is also a Silver Edition and a White Edition, priced at $300 and $200, respectively. Both of these models offer max resolution of 1080/30p and will also do 720p at 60fps.
The key differences between the Silver and White Editions are photo resolution and Protune compatibility. The Silver Edition offers 11MP still image capture while the White Edition offers 5MP still image capture. Additionally, the Silver Edition offers compatibility with Protune as well as control over white balance.
That’s a quote from GoPro’s Facebook page about a half hour ago. It has already accumulated over 4000 likes and 700 comments from GoPro fans teeming with excitement.
Recall the recent rumors of the GoPro Hero3. Again, we have no word on specs at the moment, but it will surely have powerful WiFi features built-in to take advantage of the new GoPro app for smartphone compatibility (which already works with the Hero2).
Likewise, we would expect some resolution and frame rate improvements to (at least) match what Sony has done with its new Action Cams.
Stay tuned for the big news tonight!
