Adobe Offering 50% Off for Final Cut Pro Switchers

July 2, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Adobe’s marketing machine is taking advantage of the Final Cut Pro X dilemma by enticing Final Cut Pro users with a 50% off discount of competing Adobe products and packages, including Premiere Pro CS5.5 and Production Premium CS5.5.  Adobe’s promo (shown above) takes a dig at Apple’s recent bad press with its switch slogan: “You’re a pro. Make sure your toolset is too.” [Read more…]

Quotable: “The Future Of Photography Is Convergence”

June 19, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Over at A Photo Editor, there’s an interesting interview with Vincent Laforet concerning the future of photography.  In it he discusses where these photo and video cameras are heading, including how new technology will affect the vision required to capture “the decisive moment.”

Here’s what’s important, if you can shoot 120 frames or 96 frames per second at a high resolution, it removes one of the single most difficult aspects of being a photographer, which is to capture the “decisive moment.”

Head on over to A Photo Editor the the complete interview.

Nikon Working on Preset Focus Pulls for Future Cameras

June 17, 2011 By Eric Reagan

A recently published Nikon patent application shows that Nikon is working on implementing programmed focus pulls in video-capable cameras.

Essentially, the patent application describes the process of setting a starting focus point on the camera’s LCD and then an ending focus point.  The camera will then automatically (and smoothly) rack focus between the two points as you record video. [Read more…]

‘Act of Valor’ Shot on 5D Mark II Picked Up for $13 Million

June 13, 2011 By Eric Reagan

‘Act of Valor’ is a film that I’ve heard a lot about over the past couple of years from cinematographer Shane Hurlbut, who has been a big proponent of Canon HDSLRs.  He’s been talking about how they used the 5D Mark II to get shots they couldn’t otherwise get – using Zeiss lenses and helmet cams for a unique combination of shooting rigs.

The film is looking to be a pretty big deal for Hurlbut and Bandito Brothers. Relativity Media announced today that it picked up worldwide marketing and distribution rights for a $13-million guarantee. [Read more…]

June 9, 2011 By Eric Reagan

The Canon Rebel T3i (aka 600D) is the lastest entry-level DSLR from Canon.  As a step-up from the budget-oriented Rebel T3, the Rebel T3i offers a little more bang-for-your-buck while still retaining an entry-level price point.

On Monday, June 6, WWDC 2011 kicks off in San Francisco with Steve Jobs on stage at 1PM ET.  Of course, the consumer topics of iCloud, iOS 5 and OS X Lion are at the top of the buzz list; however, those who have been waiting patiently (or, impatiently for some of us) since the Final Cut Pro X teaser in April may not have to wait much longer either.
