The new Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD lens now has official pricing, and comes in at $1069 (a slight price hike of $120 over the 200-500mm lens it is replacing). The lens is available for pre-order in Canon, Nikon and Sony mounts and is expected to be available on January 17, 2014. Check it out here at B&H Photo.
New Sony A7 and A7R owners can rejoice. Samyang has introduced five new full-frame lenses for Sony E-mount, including:
So far, only the 14mm f/2.8 lens is available for pre-order. Expect the others to follow soon.
With the warm reception we’ve seen from the Sony A7 and A7R, expect the third-party lens lineup to continue to grow for the Sony E-mount. Also, while these lenses were clearly released in response to the A7 and A7R, they are also compatible with the Sony APS-C E-mount cameras.
Fuji has announced the Fujinon XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS lens for its X-Series mirrorless cameras. Accounting for the APS-C crop factor, the new lens offers the equivalent field of view of a 15-36mm lens on a full frame camera. [Read more…]

Nikon AF-S 35mm f/1.8G DX Lens
New rumors suggest that Nikon will announce a 35mm f/1.8 lens for FX format cameras for CES 2014. This lens would serve as a complement to the 35mm f/1.8G DX lens (pictured above) and sit under the higher-end 35mm f/1.4G FX lens. It also may mark the end of the old 35mm f/2D, but I doubt the price stays around the $360 mark of the 35mm f/2.

Tamron’s new new 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DI VC USD lens that is set to replace the current 200-500mm version will be available in the US on January 17, 2014. Tamron still hasn’t released pricing on the new lens; however, I would expect it to come in higher than the $949 street price of the existing 200-500mm lens.
Tamron offers a little more detail into the build of the lens with its latest press release.
Employing 20 elements in 13 groups and boasting an advanced optical design, the lens delivers a superior balance of resolution and contrast for sharp, clear images. The front group contains three LD (Low Dispersion) glass elements (two in the first group, one in the third) for enhanced optical correction effectiveness, enabling the lens to thoroughly compensate for on-axis aberrations at the telephoto end. The lens also adopts eBAND Coating, developed from state-of-the-art coating technologies, and conventional BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating to greatly suppress ghosting and flare even when shooting under adverse lighting conditions.
The new 150-600mm lens is already listed at B&H Photo for Canon, Nikon and Sony mounts; however, as noted above, there is no pricing info as of yet.

I received the new Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 lens this week for testing. I pulled it out of the box a couple days ago and was immediately disappointed with the front focusing. It was way off at 18mm and a little off at 24mm and 35mm. [Read more…]
