Nikon D60 Replacement Has a Flip Screen LCD?

April 5, 2009 By Eric Reagan

UPDATE 4/14/09:  The Nikon D5000 is official and, yes, it has a flip-screen LCD.  Details here.

According to this forums post (you’ll have to look past the pop-up ads), someone nabbed this shot of what appears to be a Nikon D60-sized DSLR with a flip screen LCD.  You can even seen the Nikon label upside down on the panel’s LCD.

Something Awful forum member indyjb got the shot and claims that it comes from a commercial shoot “somewhere in Eastern Europe.”  indyjb also claims to have plenty more pics of the mystery-DSLR as well.  He says:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but as far as I know there is not a Nikon DSLR with a flip screen.

I have more and better pictures if people are interested.

We’re interested. Please, do share.

Reader Question: Nikon D300 vs. Pentax K20D

February 4, 2009 By Eric Reagan

I received an email from Tracy, who is a newsletter subscriber, regarding a camera choice between the Nikon D300 and Pentax K20D.  Since you guys rocked with such great advice last week, I’m stepping completely to the side on this on and letting Photography Bay readers run with it.

I am really trying to get into outdoor / landscape photography here in the middle Tennessee area. I used to be a very experienced photographer (in the film days) but haven’t stepped up to the plate with digital. I don’t have a bank of glass or accessories to sway me in any direction. I do however like the Nikon D300 and the Pentax K20d. I realize these are two very different cameras (price and function), however I want the best for my money. The D300 is still rather expensive but I love the 52 point AF and the color saturation that it provides. I don’t think there’s a ton of difference when it comes to noise. The K20d takes superb photos, is weather sealed but I’m not sure if I want to get in deep with Pentax, knowing that if I make this a career, someday I will want to switch to Nikon. I know it is my decision to make but I was just looking for a little advice from someone who knows more about digital than I do…….

Thanks,
Tracy

So, can you help Tracy decide?

What factors should take precedence here?

Which camera will serve Tracy’s needs better?

More Nikon D3x and D4 Rumors

October 23, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Over at a German Canikon community, a forum poster says he’s got some new rumors on a D3 replacement from Nikon (via Google Translate):

The latest information from the NPS say that environments later this year or likely D3x Nikon Nikon D4 and announced no later than the Nikon Solution in February also will be available. It will be a resolution of 24, x MP in a series of image speed of 5-6 pictures. The new D3 is to replace and not run parallel what astonished me first and also excited.

Nikon School DVD: A Hands-on Guide to Creative Lighting

October 21, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Heads up!  Joe McNally and Bob Krist have put together what is sure to be a solid education tool for all you Nikon shooters out there who want to learn more about Nikon Creative Lighting System (CLS), which is one of the strong points of the Nikon DSLR system.  If it’s like everything else that Joe McNally does, this is probably 2.5 hours well spent. Nikon Press Event Bumped to November 20

October 15, 2008 By Eric Reagan

After a bit of confusion about who will see what and when, Kamera & Bild seems to have sorted things out and confirmed that Nikon’s press conference will be a worldwide event that takes place on November 20 (rather than October 22).  Kamera & Bild’s guesswork translates as follows:

Why the date of the press conference changed, we have not been told. Perhaps the product has been delayed, or the Nikon in Denmark had the time wrong.

Note, however, that the November 20 date, which is a Thursday, appears to be a solid, confirmed date.

Keep your eyes peeled for the Nikon MX format and/or Nikon D3x.

Nikon DSLRs Get 2nd Consecutive JD Power Award

October 15, 2008 By Eric Reagan

The market share gaps are shrinking between Canon, Nikon and Sony.  Nikon has made the right moves over the past couple years in their DSLR lineup as is evident in the JD Power and Associates customer satisfaction award two years running now.

Nikon Press Conference on October 22 Could Be “BIG”

October 14, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Seems Nikon’s BIG news may be out of the bag rather soon – say, October 22?  According to Zoom, Nikon has given notice of a press release for October 22, which will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark. If true, I imagine we’ll be hearing more from other parts of the world soon.

Nikon’s product secrecy has a terrible track record lately and I wouldn’t be surprise to see this next product leak out in the next few days.

What do you think?  Is it the Nikon MX format?  Is it the Nikon D3x?  Is it something else?  Or are we all having our legs pulled?

Nikon D3x Rumor Rekindled

October 8, 2008 By Eric Reagan

It’s been a while since we’ve heard any rumblings about a D3x.  I was beginning to think those rumors had died off in favor of the Nikon MX format rumors.

Not so fast, says a Nikon USA’s PR department through what I’m sure is solid 3rd hand info at DPR forums…

  • 24.4 megapixels
  • 9 frames per second
  • Full frame w/ crop capabilities
  • $6499.99 USD
  • same body as D3
  • December announcement/release?

Thom Hogan added to the discussion:

And people wonder why Nikon offers a doubled buffer for the D3 ;~)

I will note, however, that several prior rumors from as old as last October said the D3x was 12 months away.  I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how merry Christmas turns out to be for all you Nikon shooters.
