Nikon D90 to be Announced June 16th?

June 15, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Rumor has it, that is Nikon Rumors has it, the Nikon D90 may be announced by Nikon D90. Nikon Rumors has published the above photo, which looks like a “press” image and bears too many differences from current models to be a Photoshopped job. (I will say, however, that the “9” on the badge looks a little jacked up.)

June 16th is significant because of Thom Hogan’s prior predictions for the release of a D90 and D3x from Nikon:

I’m tightening my D90 (or whatever they decide to call it) prediction date to between May 12th and June 16th.

If you’re interested in seeing a dissection of the above Nikon D90 image compared to other current Nikon DSLRs, check out Nikon Rumors for more.

Finally, for the latest news and rumors on the Nikon D90, stay tuned to Photography Bay’s Nikon D90 page.

UPDATE:  Sorry for the false alarm folks, but after further inspection, this is clearly a PS job based on the below image of the Nikon D300.  Look closely and you’ll find the similarities as well.  Pretty good PS job though, it had me pondering for a bit.

Nikon D60 Review at Imaging Resource

June 13, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Imaging Resource has posted a review of the 10.1 megapixel Nikon D60.

Like the D40x before it, the Nikon D60 is a real gem. Consumers should want one, intermediate photographers should want one, and pros would do well to carry one too. The Nikon D60 is one of the finest “family” cameras on the market, easily upholding the standards of its predecessors, which is a tall order.

I couldn’t agree more with Imaging Resource’s assessment (see PB’s Nikon D60 Review).  For even more news and reviews on the D60, check out Photography Bay’s Nikon D60 Reviews and Resources page.

Nikon Coolpix P80 Review at PhotographyBLOG

June 12, 2008 By Eric Reagan

PhotographyBLOG has posted a review of the Nikon Coolpix P80.  The new P80 boasts a 10.1 megapixel image sensor, Nikon’s EXPEED processing and vibration reduction on a whopping 18x optical zoom lens.  The P80’s 18x Zoom-NIKKOR lens covers focal lengths from 27-486mm (35mm format equivalent).

The 1cm macro mode can’t make up for this camera’s other deficiencies, and whilst image quality isn’t that bad, it isn’t great either, and certainly not as good as our current super-zoom of choice, the Fujifilm Finepix S8000fd.

Nikon Coolpix P80 Review at Cnet

June 10, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Cnet has posted a review of the Nikon Coolpix P80.  The new P80 boasts a 10.1 megapixel image sensor, Nikon’s EXPEED processing and vibration reduction on a whopping 18x optical zoom lens.  The P80’s 18x Zoom-NIKKOR lens covers focal lengths from 27-486mm (35mm format equivalent).

One of the better 18x megazooms, nevertheless you should consider the Nikon Coolpix P80’s sluggish performance before you commit to it.

Nikon D60 Review at Digital Camera Info

June 7, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Digital Camera Info has posted a review of the 10.1 megapixel Nikon D60.

Imaging performance shines when it comes to noise, and the responsiveness while shooting is exceptional for a camera in this class. However, the D60 also lagged in several equally important areas, including white balance and dynamic range.

For the latest news and reviews on the D60, check out Photography Bay’s Nikon D60 Reviews and Resources page.

Nikon D60 Review at DC Resource

June 6, 2008 By Eric Reagan

DC Resource has published a review of the new 10.1 megapixel Nikon D60.

I think more experienced photographers will frown on its overprocessed photos, mediocre set of manual controls, and autofocus lens support. I think there are better entry-level D-SLRs out there, but the D60 is still worth looking at.

Capture NX2 Hands-on Preview at Luminescent Photo

June 5, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Capture NX2 was just announced and Luminescent Photo has put together a hands-on preview of the new software.  Detailing a number of the improvements in NX2, Jason Odell appears quite pleased with the updated software, noting:

The ease by which photographers can create incredibly complex mask effects takes the “work” out of the image editing process and allows creativity to come to the forefront. Users who enjoyed Capture NX 1.3 will definitely appreciate the enhancements in NX2.

Head on over to Luminescent Photo for the full scoop.

Nikon AF-S 50-150mm f/2.8 G

June 4, 2008 By Eric Reagan

In the above image found on dc.watch.impress.co.jp, the EXIF info in the left panel indicates that the lens used was a Nikon AF-S 50-150mm f/2.8 G lens. That’s all well and good, except there’s no lens with that focal length in Nikon’s current line up.

While I can’t make out all the text, I’m pretty confident on the assessment that this is a Nikon lens, given “G” moniker follow the f/-stop. Although Sigma has a 50-150mm lens, it has a DC moniker, which indicates that it is for cropped-sensor DSLRs only.

The inclusion of a 50-150mm lens in Nikon’s line signals their commitment to the DX sensor format and the alternative to the popular 70-200mm full frame focal length.

Perhaps we’ll see this lens at Nikon’s Photokina 2008 showing. For now, this will remain a rumor.

UPDATE:  Apparently, the Sigma lens appears as a “G” lens Nikon’s software EXIF data.  Why? I don’t know.  But I suppose that a Sigma lens was used for this Nikon ad.  [via]

Nikon Coolpix S600 Review at Neocamera

June 4, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Neocamera has published a review of the Nikon Coolpix S600.  The S600 is a 10 megapixel point and shoot digital camera.  It features a 4x optical zoom, Nikon’s VR image stabilization and a sensitivity range up to ISO 3200.

The Coolpix S600 turns out to be a camera with slightly above average image quality but slow performance in critical areas like shot-to-shot speeds and focusing. The user-interface and menu system are easy to navigate but strangely organized and require more button-presses than usual.
