Sony A-Mount Cameras Will Live On
After the recent introduction of the Sony A3000 (an E-mount camera), I have been wondering whether or not Sony would move exclusively to the E-mount and leave the legacy A-mount system in the past. If statements attributed to Sony UK’s head of digital imaging, Frederik Lange, are accurate, then Sony plans to keep on making A-mount cameras. [Read more…]
Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 IS Patent Revealed
Prior to the release of the latest Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II lens, there were rumors that a prototype of a version with Canon’s Image Stabilization was undergoing testing. Then, the new lens came along, it didn’t have IS, and word of any kind of possible replacement with image stabilization died out.
A recently published Canon patent document reveals that Canon has, in fact, developed such a lens. [Read more…]

No More New Canon DSLRs or Lenses in 2013?
We had lots of hope for new cameras and lenses from Canon. Particularly, I have been looking forward to a replacement for the EF 100-400mm L lens. Recent rumors, however, suggest that Canon may not have anything left to pull out for 2013 in terms of EOS and EF lines.
There has been plenty of murmurs in recent months about a pair of new EOS M models due prior to PhotoPlus 2013. (The current EOS M is still in fire sale mode.) If the sources are to be believed, however, it could be rather quiet for Canon other than the recent introduction of the EOS 70D.

Apple’s new camera in the iPhone 5s is receiving some high praise. While there is more to the camera than just the sensor, the image sensor is the backbone of the overall camera system. After tearing down the iPhone 5s, the folks at iFixit have determined that the 8MP sensor inside the camera is consistent with Sony design. [Read more…]
