Current Sony NEX-FS700
Sony has registered a new cinema camera with the Korean Radio Research Agency prior to its official launch. The NEX-FS700R is expected to launch in the coming days or weeks and will presumably be based around the NEX-FS700 – either a successor product or a sibling product. [Read more…]
A fews after the Canon/Phase One medium format rumors surfaced, we now have a gaggle of confirmations and denials about such a camera. One source noted that Canon was certainly going to make it happen and the Canon medium format move would get a very big announcement at Photokina 2014.
Nothing concrete has surfaced anywhere in the rumor mill. At this point, we are still waiting for something more solid to come along.

The second-gen Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras is now in stock and shipping. The first-gen lens was an excellent lens and highly sought after among Micro Four Thirds users. I expect this version to achieve similar status. Check it out in black or silver here at B&H Photo.
PocketWizard has a new off-camera flash tutorial (above) hosted by Joe Brady that covers the ins and outs of off-camera flash with mirrorless cameras. In the tutorial, Brady takes the Sony NEX-6 and NEX-7 for a spin with the PocketWizard Plus III and MiniTT1 and a variety of speedlights. [Read more…]
Photograph from Arne Svenson’s “The Neighbors”
Photographer Arne Svenson photographed people in a residential building across from his second-floor apartment in New York City. The images ended up in the Julie Saul Gallery in a show, “The Neighbors,” with prints for sale at up to $7500.
The images in the show drew a huge response by the residents appearing the in photos and, ultimately, led to a lawsuit against Svenson for invasion of privacy.
Last week, that case was dismissed in New York State court by Judge Eileen A. Rakower, who ruled that the images were protected by the First Amendment and that they did not violate New York State civil rights laws barring the use of photos for commercial purposes without a person’s consent. The court order specifically noted that “[a]n artist may create and sell a work of art that resembles an individual without his or her written consent.” [Read more…]

Topaz Labs has released a new application, ReStyle, which features a vast array of styles and looks to apply to images. It includes over 1000 styles/presets that provide one-click results; however, all of the settings are customizable, which allows you to use the presets as a starting point or develop your own custom presets from scratch. Nikon announced the Nikon Coolpix L620 last week alongside its new 18-140mm lens and SB-300 compact speedlight.
The L620 is a mild point and shoot camera amidst a plethora of other compact cameras on the market. However, a decent spec sheet and a moderate price may serve the new camera well. [Read more…]
The new Zoom H6 handheld recorder is now shipping.
As you may recall, the Zoom H6 has just about everything the Zoom H4n was missing. It features up to 6 XLR inputs (4 on-board and 2 additional inputs available via an option module) with the ability to record to all 6 simultaneously. The H6 also includes independent gain dials for each channel and a revised display and menu system.
Additional modules allow you to attach a shotgun mic, XY mic or a mid-side mic. It captures up to 24-bit/96kHz audio to SDXC cards.
