Check out the above view of Earth from the International Space Station at night. I was surprised to see how much area that a lightning strike covered with its glow. I couldn’t find any info about which camera was used to capture these images, but it would make sense that it’s a Nikon D3s or other Nikon body since the raw images were sourced from NASA.

Ricoh’s president was recently quoted saying that “Ricoh will offer characteristic compact cameras under its own label, while trying to bring the Pentax brand on par with Nikon Corp. and Canon Inc. in interchangeable-lens cameras.” While we have no specs or details on what the camera will be like, the source article notes that it would not necessarily be an expansion of the recently-announced Pentax Q system, but rather a more prosumer offering with a larger image sensor.
Of course, the Pentax reference comes from recent news that Ricoh is acquiring the company, effective October 1.

I’ve had the Sony NEX-5n in hand for all of a day now; however, I already have some quick first impressions to share.
First up, its a very fun camera to use. Quick response from shutter and focus. Autofocus is also very good in video mode. The face tracking AF during video recording seems to be very smart and smooth all the way around.
It’s also very compact – with the biggest part being the lens, which is rather bulky on the otherwise tiny camera. That’s the nature of the beast though, particularly considering that it is an 18-55mm zoom lens that’s including in a very affordable kit package. [Read more…]

DigitalRev says on its Facebook page that it has received an invite to a Canon “Pro” announcement on September 22.
Canon sure is making some noise this week with a “major” tease and a mirrorless hint. Now this?

Any guesses/wishes on what this might be?

Well, Canon just stirred the pot. Engadget received the above invitation for an announcement of something big from Canon on November 3, 2011.
