GigaPan EPIC Models Launched

March 15, 2010 By Eric Reagan

GigaPan EPIC

GigaPan is introducing several new EPIC robotic, panorama mounts today.  If you aren’t familiar with GigaPan products, these mounts allow you to make massive multi-gigapixel images with your camera by capturing literally hundreds of images that are stitched together in post-processing software.  Popular images shot with the GigaPan system include the Obama Inauguration and the 2009 World Series.

The GigaPan EPIC and EPIC 100 are slated for use with point and shoot cameras and smaller DSLRs.  Both models are currently available at gigapansystems.com for $349 and $449, respectively.

The GigaPan EPIC Pro is designed to work with DSLRs are larger lenses with up to a 10 lbs combined weight.  The EPIC Pro should be available in April 2010 for $895 from gigapansystems.com.

All GigaPan EPIC models come with GigaPan Stitch, which “automatically combines and blends hundreds of photos into one seamless gigapixel panorama, then uploads it to GigaPan.com, where users can zoom into the detail, discover, explore and share.”

More details in the press release below. [Read more…]

Sony H55 Hands-On Review

March 15, 2010 By Eric Reagan

Sony H55

The Sony H55 is a 14.1MP point and shoot camera with a 10x optical zoom, which covers an equivalent range of 25-250mm on a 35mm format camera.  It retails for $249 and is a sort-of middle-of-the-road point and shoot.  It’s not quite as high end as the Sony HX5V; however, it’s still a step up from most of Sony’s W-series of Cyber-shot cameras. Joby Gorillabike (and Some Useful Photo Stuff)

March 14, 2010 By Eric Reagan

Perhaps one of the funniest things I saw at PMA 2010, was Joby’s homegrown bike, which looks like it resulted from Lance Armstrong crashing into the Gorillapod factory.  While Gorillapods are pretty sturdy for cameras, I don’t think we’ll see Lance pedaling this bike up the Col du Tourmalet in the Tour de France this year.  Nonetheless, this is one cool bike. The Hot Shoe Diaries – Book Review

March 14, 2010 By Eric Reagan

The Hot Shoe Diaries is a book on getting the most out of those small hot shoe flashes from Joe McNally.  I hate that it has taken so long to get around to writing a review about it, because it is an excellent book. [Read more…]

Shooting Hoops with the Nikon D3S

March 13, 2010 By Eric Reagan

While evaluating the autofocus performance of the Nikon D3S, I shot with it at a couple of recent Tennessee basketball games.  I’m working on a more in-depth evaluation of the AF performance. In the mean time, however, here are a few of the resulting images.  All of the following images were captured as NEF files and processed in Lightroom 2. [Read more…]

Call For Guest Bloggers

March 12, 2010 By Eric Reagan

So here’s the deal –  I’ve got some down time scheduled for about a week, starting March 20.  And, while I have some reviews and other content that I have written in advance scheduled for that week, I thought I would open up Photography Bay to other photographers (amateur or pro) to share their thoughts with the rest of the Photography Bay community.

If you have something worthwhile to say that generally relates to photography, whether it be cameras, lenses, techniques, tips, etc., I’d be happy to consider your guest post.

Send your topic ideas via the Contact Form, and I’ll let you know if it will work.  If I get too many guest posts, I’ll cut it off based on a first-come first-served basis.

The posts will run between Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 28.

For every guest post, I’ll include a short bio with a couple of links back to your site or work elsewhere on the web.

Past guest contributors include Rich Legg, Zach Matthews, Angela Datre and many others.  You can hit those links for an idea of the bio, links and general topic ideas.

Again, you can submit your post ideas or any questions through the Contact Form.

Thanks!

Samsung TL350

The Samsung TL350 is a rather compact point and shoot camera that is sort of the little brother to the Samsung TL500.  It features a 10MP CMOS sensor, a 5x optical zoom and a 3-inch VGA AMOLED screen.  In terms of its specifications, the TL350 is packed full of features and killer numbers across the board. onOne Software Offers Free Photoshop Plug-ins

March 12, 2010 By Eric Reagan

onOne Software

onOne Software just announced the availability of free versions of its PhotoTools 2.5 and PhotoFrame 4.5 Photoshop plug-ins.  The Standard versions of each will set you back $160 each; however, the free versions are based on the standard versions, only they have less content.  These are free forever though – unlike the 30-day trial versions you see out there.

The plug-ins are compatible with Photoshop CS2, CS3 and CS4.  I don’t see any downside to this deal from onOne.  So, head on over and check them out at http://www.ononesoftware.com/free.

More details in the press release below. [Read more…]
