iMacs up to $150 Off at B&H

August 23, 2013 By Eric Reagan

iMac

B&H has a sale on 21.5″ and 27″ iMacs right now with up to $150 off and free shipping.

Macs are always a good deal at B&H due to the solid prices on AppleCare that are substantially below what Apple charges at retail. I’ve been buying Macs from B&H for years for myself and they’ve always beat Apple’s pricing on both the Mac and the AppleCare. I’m not sure how they offer the cut rate prices on AppleCare, but that’s a key reason why I stick with B&H for any Mac or other Apple hardware that I buy.

I had a conversation with one of the Mac sales guys at B&H a year or so back and he told me that B&H was the biggest Mac retailer in New York state – selling more Macs that even Apple in New York.

Check out all the iMac deals here at B&H Photo.

Apple 5K Retina Display Coming?

June 15, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Apple 27-inch Cinema Display

With the new Mac Pro packed with enough power to run three 4K displays at once, it’s reasonable to question where those 4K displays are coming from. While there are a few 4K monitors available now, there are none from Apple. The 27″ LED Cinema Display offers 2560 x 1440 resolution; however, that’s still a far cry from full 4K resolution at 4096 x 2160, or UHD 4K at 3840 x2160.

With the upcoming release of OS X Mavericks, Apple has released a new desktop background available at a resolution 5120 x 2880 – or 4x the resolution of the current 27″ LED Cinema Display. [Read more…]

Apple Announces New Mac Pro with Radical Departure from Current Design

June 10, 2013 By Eric Reagan

MacPro

At WWDC today, Apple announced the upcoming Mac Pro, which will be available later this year. The new Mac Pro is clearly a massive change from the Mac Pro form factor we have grown accustomed to really since the aluminum Power Mac G5’s introduction in 2003, which was somewhat refreshed with the first Mac Pro in 2006. Supply Constraints Signal Possible Mac Pro Update at WWDC on June 10, Rumors Say No Internal Expandability

June 3, 2013 By Eric Reagan

macpro

Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference kicks off next week with the keynote on June 10. Historically, the keynote has been a place to show off new Apple products and get the developers excited with the latest iOS and OS X news.

Tight supplies of Apple computers often signals that they have a replacement in the pipeline very soon. And that just happens to be the case with the Mac Pro, which is backordered at numerous retailers that normally have a healthy stock and quick shipments. [Read more…]

Apple Pushes Out FCP X Update w/ Sony XAVC 4K Support; Bigger Stuff Coming Soon…?

March 28, 2013 By Eric Reagan

FCP X

Apple has just updated Final Cut Pro X to version 10.0.8 and includes support for Sony’s XAVC codec used in its 4K cameras. The XAVC codec is used for 4K capture on the Sony F55. (Recall that I also detailed XAVC and the potential to use XQD cards to capture 4K XAVC footage in Sony’s new “consumer” 4K camcorder back at CES.) It’s a relatively minor update with additional support for the ARRI Alexa and some other fixes and improvements.

Along with the release of the FCP X update, however, Apple is nudging back at the pro market with a campaign to get us back on board the Apple video editing train. It is certainly no coincidence that NAB 2013 kicks off in a little over a week though. [Read more…]
