New Canon Lenses Availiability Postponed

March 26, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Canon has released a statement in which it apologizes for the postponement of recently announced lenses.  The EF 8-15mm f/4L, EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II, and EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II were all scheduled to be released in March 2011.

However, the recent earthquake in Japan caused damage to its manufacturing plants and, as a result, the availability of these lenses is currently unknown.  Canon stated that it will provide an update on the availability of these lenses once that date becomes clear.  Note that B&H Photo has listed an approximate availability date of May for the 8-15mm and 400mm lenses (see above links).

Associated Press Sees Canon 5D Mark II as a “Game Changer”

February 22, 2011 By Eric Reagan

In the above video from Beet.TV, Vice President & Director of Associated Press Broadcasting News, Kevin Roach, talks about writers taking on video projects and photographers adding the 5D Mark II to their arsenal in order to tell a story beyond a single frame.

No doubt the 5D Mark II is a game changer; however, Roach’s commentary on the AP’s approach to news gathering and what this new era of DSLRs has done for the AP is interesting nonetheless.

60 Million Canon Lenses

February 7, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Thirteen months ago, Canon announced that there were 50 million Canon lenses floating around.  Today, there are 60 million Canon lenses in the world.

Lucky number 60,000,000 was an EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM lens.  Who wants to wager that Canon hits the 70 million mark by the end of 2011?

See Canon’s bragging rights in the press release below. [Read more…]
