Alongside the new Canon 6D Mark II, we also get the Canon Rebel SL2 (or 200D outside North America) today. Like its predecessor, the SL2 looks like a nice kit option for those looking to own their first DSLR – or even if you wanted to upgrade an older Canon Rebel model. [Read more…]
Canon 6D Mark II Officially Unveiled
The Canon 6D Mark II is officially here and it’s almost everything we hoped it would be. The original Canon 6D went a long way to making the full frame DSLR format more accessible than previously possible. The 6D Mark II carries that mantle forward with an impressive set of photography features. [Read more…]

Canon 6D Mark II Priced Under $2K?
In the last rumor update on the Canon 6D Mark II, I was hoping that the 6D Mark II would come in at or below the $2100 price point of the original Canon 6D. New credible info from Canon Rumors reveals that the retail price will be $1,999 when it is officially unveiled next week!
While the 6D Mark II doesn’t look like it has the whiz-bang video features of the 5D Mark IV, it looks like it has some serious chops as a still image shooter. It’s rumored to be a full frame DSLR with a 26MP sensor with a 45-point AF system with all cross-type points.
Of course, the 1080/60p video capture on the full frame sensor is going to do well enough, it’s not quite cutting edge as a 2017 HDSLR. With the updated AF, high-res full frame sensor and sub-$2,000 price, it looks like a well-timed and welcome photography tool at a substantially-discounted price from the state-of-the-art 5D Mark IV.
We should know everything for certain next week on the 6D Mark II’s expected announcement date of June 29.
Stay tuned.
Canon 6D Mark II Specs and June Launch Date
Additional details on the upcoming Canon 6D Mark II continue to trickle in. The announcement date for the new full frame shooter looks like it will be on June 29, 2017 and will ship in early August. The specs look even more promising as Canon’s affordable full frame option. [Read more…]
Canon 5D Mark IV vs. Rebel T3i: Why Photographers Hate Being Asked What Camera They Use
How many of you are asked regularly what camera you use? Because just anyone can buy a Canon 5D Mark IV from B&H Photo and shoot “professional” photos, right?
The guys from Mango Street Lab made the above video to prove the point. They brought their friend Justin, who’s not a pro photographer, in to use their Canon 5D Mark IV and Canon L lens to shoot a model in a studio setting. They shot the same model in the same space with a Canon Rebel T3i and a 18-55mm kit lens and the $200 40mm f/2.8 lens.
Justin did good but, as we saw, the basics in composition and perspective left a lot to be desired when you view his images next to the pro photographers’ shots. The pro shooters also did Justin a huge favor by providing him with great lighting, which is already setting up anyone with a “good” shot. I think if they put him outdoors in a more challenging lighting situation, we’d see even a bigger difference.
The point of the video is well taken though. Focus on your craft and then you will know what you really “need” to buy next.
