Phottix Odin TTL Trigger for Sony Shipping This Week

September 17, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Phottix_Odin_For_Sony

The Phottix Odin TTL Flash Trigger for Sony will start to ship this week.  Here are the key features:

  • Wireless 2.4GHz. TTL and Manual Flash Triggering
  • Remote power control of groups in TTL with +/- EV adjustments (3 stops in 1/3 stop increments  – 18 different levels.)
  • Remote manual mode flash power control with 1/3 stop adjustments
  • Remote flash head zoom adjustments – auto or manual
  • Mix TTL and Manual flash – fire some groups in TTL, others as manual
  • Remote power control in A:B ratio modes with +/- EV adjustments
  • High speed sync – shutter speeds up to 1/8000 sec.
  • Second curtain sync functions
  • Compatible with Phottix Strato 4-in-1, Phottix Strato II Multi 5-in-1 Wireless Triggers and Phottix Atlas II Triggers
  • Upgradeable firmware via built-in USB port.

Now that they’ve made a TTL trigger with that ridiculous, backwards mount, Sony unloads the A99 and RX1 with a standard ISO hot shoe.  I talked to Phottix about this and was told that they are actively evaluating Sony’s new move and when update us once their R&D team has had time to assess the new Sony system.  In the mean, their are a whole lot of Sony Alpha shooters out their with the old Minolta mount that can make immediate use of these new triggers.

Check out the Phottix Online Store, Amazon or Adorama for Phottix products.

September 11, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Impossible Project iPhone Printer

Impossible Project has launched a Kickstarter campaign to build an instant Polaroid printer for your iPhone that prints images directly from your iPhone’s screen.

The design is rather straightforward.  Pull up an image on your iPhone.  Place the iPhone face down on the Impossible Instant Lab and press the shutter button on the Instant Lab.  Then, your print ejects from the Instant Lab.

Check out the overview in the Kickstarter project video below.  [Read more…]

Blackmagic Cinema Camera MFT (Micro Four Thirds Mount) Announced

September 7, 2012 By Eric Reagan

BMCC

Blackmagic has unveiled a new version of its Cinema Camera with a Micro Four Thirds lens mount.  It will carry the same $2995 price as the Canon EF mount version and will be available in December.

This is a good move on Blackmagic’s part because the sensor crop has been the biggest limitation for the Canon EF mount.  A Micro Four Thirds mount puts the camera into a range of lenses that are more appropriate focal lengths for its sensor size.

Details on the BMCC MFT below. [Read more…]

What is Blackmagic Up to Tomorrow?

September 6, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Blackmagic Cinema Camera

Blackmagic Design, maker of the very popular and affordable Blackmagic Cinema Camera, apparently has something up its sleeve for tomorrow morning.  That is, if tonight’s tweet from Andy Shipsides (Camera Tech & Training Department Manager at AbelCine) has any credence to it.

Keep your eyes on the Blackmagic website tomorrow morning.

— Andy Shipsides (@AndyShipsides) September 7, 2012

IBC 2012 kicked off today and there is a lot of pro video news coming out of the convention over the past few days.  Of course, Blackmagic makes a lot of products that aren’t quite as sexy as the BMCC, but we’ll be keeping an eye on it regardless.  Check back Friday morning to see what’s up.

[UPDATE:  It’s a Micro Four Thirds mount version of the BMCC.]

ARRI Pro Camera Acessories - Blackmagic Cinema Camera

ARRI has introduced “Ready to Shoot” camera rig kits for the new Blackmagic Cinema Camera.  When Blackmagic unveiled its Cinema Camera at NAB 2012, it was readily apparent that we would need to use some sort of rig to get the most out of the camera.

ioSafe Has In-Office Disaster for Unintended Product Testing

September 3, 2012 By Eric Reagan

ioSafe Offices Disaster

Around the same time I published the recent ioSafe Extreme Rugged hard drive review, ioSafe had its own in-office disaster when a sprinkler pipe broke and flooded its office.  Fortunately, they were using their own ioSafe waterproof drives throughout the offices and didn’t lose any data.

Check out their account of the rather ironic disaster below. [Read more…]

PocketWizard MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 Support for 5D Mark III May Arrive in 2 Weeks

August 29, 2012 By Eric Reagan

PocketWizard has provided an update on the MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 support for the 5D Mark III.  I know a lot of you are interested in this update because I’ve received numerous questions about it since the recent PocketWizard firmware update for Nikon models added support for the D800 and D4.

They currently have a firmware version that looks promising and are in the process of testing all of the features with all Canon DSLR models to ensure support across the product line.  The guys at PocketWizard have literally stopped answering the phones, checking email and answering questions on Facebook in order to finalize this firmware update and get it out the door.

Right now, their hope is to have a release “within the next couple of weeks” but no promises on a firm date.

Stay tuned for the latest.
