indiSLIDER at NAB 2012

April 24, 2012 By Eric Reagan

indiSLIDER

The indiSLIDER is a camera slider that I’ve been intrigued with after seeing its ridiculously low prices online a few months back.  I had my doubts about how smooth such a cheap product would actually perform.  Those doubts were alleviated after handling a few samples on the NAB 2012 show floor.

While it’s still not a high-end product from the likes of Kessler and such, it performs amazingly well for the price.  Check out the video below for a little overview  of the indiSLIDER system.

The indiSLIDER starts at just $99 for the barebones 24″ model and goes up to $215 for the 4-foot model with legs.  More robust “pro” models start at $399.

Camtrol Sniper 1080

Camtrol was on-hand at NAB 2012 showing off some of its new wares, including the updated Camtrol Prime 33 for HDSLRs and small-ish camcorders (an upgrade from the Prime 22), as well as the Sniper 1080 for the action-oriented POV crowd.

I caught up with the Camtrol guys for an introduction to these new products, which you can see in the video below.

indiSYSTEM AIRjib and AIRjib XL at NAB 2012

April 19, 2012 By Eric Reagan

I stopped by the indiSYSTEM booth at NAB 2012 to check out some of their latest gear.  A couple of cool and very affordable new products are the AIRjib and AIRjib XL.

AIRjib

For those looking for a lightweight and compact jib, the AIRjib models are very appealing.  These jibs are counterweighted by 1-liter or 2-liter bottles.  The systems collapse and are setup tool-free.  The AIRjib is so compact that it will breakdown to within carry-on luggage requirements.

Check out more details in indiSYSTEM’s website.

Gorillapod Audio Boompole

Yet another use for a Gorillapod.  We needed something to allow one guy to handle everything on a shoot yesterday.  And, this is why I always carry at least one Gorillapod in my bag.

‘Act of Valor’ Steps Up the HDSLR Game

February 25, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Act of Valor

I waited patiently for a couple of years or so since I first heard about a Navy Seal movie Shane Hurlbut ASC was shooting on the Canon 5D Mark II.  I’ve read about how Shane lit night scenes with practicals, numerous mentions of his man-cam and helmet cam rigs, and how Zeiss lenses worked in tandem with the 5D Mark II for a big screen blockbuster.

It hit theaters yesterday.  And, I set out last night with a few friends to watch it.  I was not disappointed. [Read more…]

CineSquid Suction Mount for Gorillapods and DSLRs

February 23, 2012 By Eric Reagan

The guys behind CineSkates are at it again with CineSquid – a trio of suction cups designed for use in tandem with the Gorillapod Focus tripod.

CineSquid

As you can see from the video above, there are plenty of uses for sticking your 5lb or less DSLR kit on various surfaces for some less-than-ordinary shots.

Magic Bullet Looks Now Works with Final Cut Pro X

February 6, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Magic Bullet Looks FCP X

I neglected to note this last week when I wrote about the Final Cut Pro X version 10.0.3 upgrade; however, one of the many fixes provided in the update was a hurdle that Red Giant had with implementing Magic Bullet Looks in Final Cut Pro X.

I’ve been using Magic Bullet Mojo with FCP X since it was released.  Simple, clean and smooth integration with the FCP X interface.  Now that Looks is integrated with FCP X, I’ll be using it on some upcoming projects.  In what little I’ve played around in it, I’ve been overly pleased with the interface.  I’ll let you know if there are any problems as I use it more, and I welcome your thoughts as well.  So far though, so good.

Magic Bullet Looks is only $199 through tomorrow, Feb. 7 (that’s half off).  Coupon code LOOKSFCPX50 required. The FCP X Looks upgrade is free for existing Looks users.

Check out the video from Red Giant below. [Read more…]
