At this point, the official announcement of Sony cameras this week will be a little unsurprising; however, it still looks to be a heck of a product lineup for Sony.
In the latest leak, we have more views of the Sony NEX-6, which we know as a 16MP mirrorless camera situated in Sony’s NEX lineup between the NEX-5R and the NEX-7.
We also get a little better look at the EVF placement and the ISO standard hot shoe atop the NEX-6.

Clearly styled after the RX100, the upcoming Sony RX1 has leaked out ahead of its expected announcement later this week.
The Sony RX1 is expected to sport a full frame 24MP sensor (likely the same sensor inside the Sony A99), a Zeiss 35mm f/2 fixed lens, and a price tag of $2799. [Read more…]
The is purported to be an image of the Sony A99 that is expected to be launched next week just prior to Photokina 2012. The A99 is rumored to feature a full frame 24.3MP CMOS image sensor and capture 1080/60p AVCHD video with a clean HDMI output. Moreover, the A99 is expected to sport a 102-point AF system that is split between traditional phase-dectect AF points and pixel-level AF points built into the sensor. Newly leaked images of the upcoming Sony NEX-VG30 show a camera that’s very similar to the current NEX-VG20 model. However, the most notable difference is the inclusion of a new power zoom lens mounted on the compact APS-C camcorder.
Based on the size of this lens and the past kit lenses for this series, I would presume that this is an 18-200mm kit lens (probably with a f/3.5-5.6 aperture as well). This could be the breakout features that turns the VG30 into a competent consumer camera. In my opinion, the manual zoom lens on the prior models was the thing keeping these out of consumers’ hands. When Sony launched the FS700 cinema camera, it teased that it was capable of shooting 4K footage and that such capabilities would be unlocked via a firmware update at some, undisclosed point in the future.
Well, that time may be upon us. Speaking with a Sony insider at the recent IFA show, EOSHD reports that Sony is prepping to launch the 4K firmware upgrade for the FS700 within a few weeks. Noting further:
I was told that by Sony insider (not a sales rep) there are two external recorders already on the market that will work with the camera in 4K mode by Aja and Sony. Sony have no plans to restrict 4K output to their own external recorder(s), and that is the first bit of good news…Encouragingly this 4K firmware update is ‘weeks away’ according to Sony, unless that strategy changes or any unforeseen consequences occur. I asked about pricing and I am told it will be similar to the S-LOG upgrade for the Sony F3 which currently retails for £500 + VAT at CVP in the UK. It is just a firmware update.
Given that the FS700 is an $8000 camera, a reasonable price for the 4K firmware upgrade could deliver a stunning 4K camera at a sub-$10k price point – something that no one has really done yet. (Notwithstanding the lackluster JVC HMQ10.)

Check out this image nabbed by Photo Rumors that breaks down the AF-point distribution on the upcoming Sony A99.
The new SLT Alpha A99 will feature 39 ordinary phase-detection AF points (11 are cross-type points) and 63 AF points directly on the A99’s full frame sensor. That’s a total of 102 phase-detection AF points on the Sony A99.
The Sony NEX-EA50 was initially believed to be priced at $4200 with an included 18-200mm servo zoom lens. A pricing update from B&H, however, reveals that this kit will be only $3599.
Given the features available on this camcorder, I am quite impressed with the low price point. The NEX-EA50 should be available in October. You can order it here at B&H Photo.
Sony is dropping a massive load of new gear next week. According to massive leakage at Photo Rumors, the full frame Sony A99 and NEX-6 will be officially unveiled on September 12. But that’s not all…
There are several new lenses and accessories for these cameras coming, as well as an impressive NEX-VG900 full frame camcorder priced at $3300 and a new NEX-VG30 camcorder (presumably serving as an update to the NEX-VG20) priced at $1800.
