Babylon Bee Reports: Canon Now Including ‘Professional Photographer’ Certificate with Cameras Over $599

Christian satire news site Babylon Bee recently posted an article mocking consumers who purchase expensive cameras. In the article titled Canon Now Including ‘Professional Photographer’ Certificate With All Cameras Costing At Least $599, Babylon Bee notes:

“If you spend at least $599 on a camera, you’re instantly transformed into a professional photographer, and now you have the documentation to prove it,” a Canon spokesperson said. “In a lot of professions, you have to take classes or practice for years before you truly become a professional, but not in photography. Just buy one of our budget to mid-range cameras, and you’re in.” [Read more…]

Panasonic Announces the Lumix S1H with 6K Video Capture

Last week, Panasonic announced its new Lumix S1H full frame camera at the CineGear expo. The new SH1 adds to the Lumix Series with the existing S1R and S1 models. It will capture video at 6K/24p at 3:2 aspect ratio, 5.9K/30p with a 16:9 aspect ratio, and 10-bit 60p at 4K resolution.

The S1H features V-Log/V-Gamut with a wide dynamic range of 14+ stops, which are virtually the same as those of the high-end Panasonic Cinema VariCam line.

The Panasonic Lumix S1H should ship in the third quarter of 2019 for $4000.

Canon Killed Its Last Film Camera One-Year Ago Today

One year ago today on May 30, 2018, Canon ended sales for the EOS-1v SLR film camera. It was the final film camera that Canon offered for sale.

Few 35mm film cameras (from any brand) remain on the market today. In fact, the only SLR film camera that B&H Photo currently offers in new condition is the Nikon F6. A handful of Leica rangefinders and Ansco point and shoot models round out the 35mm options. Fortunately, the film camera options for used equipment are bountiful on the likes of eBay, including tons of listings for the Canon EOS-1v.

So, pour one out for the Canon EOS-1v today as we move into the next generation of mirrorless cameras that stand on the shoulders of these workhorses from yesteryear.
