How to Remove Warping from Warp Stabilizer

May 23, 2015 By Eric Reagan

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KALsx-HDJjE&w=700]

Warp Stabilizer is a powerful tool inside Adobe’s Premiere Pro and After Effects. However, it is not perfect.

Some shots with moving subjects (in addition to camera movement) can add a warble to the image, which creates an ugly jello effect on elements within the shot. The key to getting rid of the additional warbling is to remove tracking data from moving objects within the frame and only using static objects for tracking.

The video above from Cal Thomson shows you how to move from Premiere Pro to After Effects to remove non-essential tracking data. It’s a simple process even though it can be a rather long and mundane task.

How to Shoot Time Lapse Sequences on the Canon EOS 5DS and 5DS R

May 21, 2015 By Eric Reagan

Canon 5Ds

The past two releases of Canon professional DSLRs show that Canon has finally come around to the notion that its customers who pay thousands of dollars for a camera think an intervalometer should be built-in. The Canon 7D Mark II along with the 5DS and 5DS R cameras are the first Canon DSLRs to offer a built-in intervalometer. With these new models, it is now possible to shoot interval images for time lapse sequences without the need for the overpriced Canon TC-80N3.

Note, however, that shooting still images with the built-in intervalometer is different than shooting in Time-lapse movie mode on the 5DS and 5DS R. [Read more…]

Get a Sneak Peek of an Early Prototype of Adobe’s Mobile Retouching

May 21, 2015 By Eric Reagan

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLhftwa2-y4&w=700]

In this video, Bryan O’Neil Hughes shows off some serious retouching capabilities of Adobe’s mobile photo retouching on the iPad. He doesn’t name the app but these features will probably show up in a future iteration of a Photoshop mobile app.

I have always been a little clumsy making fine edits with my fingers on the iPad. I have tried using a stylus with varied degrees of success. I don’t think I’m alone in these challenges either. Today, I just don’t know how serious this feature can be taken. It could be one of those handy features used occasionally that is nice to have, but not essential.

Then again, it may turn out to be an app/feature that hits just in time for the rumored iPad Pro. The more horsepower Apple continues to put into the iPad, the more closely the spec sheet approaches Wacom’s Cintiq tablets. And, if that happens, Wacom’s products may become even more niche solutions than they already are.

Adobe apps have to become much more robust on iOS and Android before that happens and this teaser shows that Adobe is well on its way to doing just that.
