Coremelt TrackX for FCP X Review

March 27, 2014 By Eric Reagan

trackx_mocha_slide_710x350

Coremelt TrackX is a plugin for Final Cut Pro X that allows you to track objects in your footage while inside FCP X using Mocha and without needing to take footage to an outside program like After Effects or Motion. The trackers are added to your footage and you can replace screens, add tracking text or blur logos and such directly from your FCP X project.

The workflow is rather straightforward. Although it is not an entry-level task, it is still fairly simple to follow the tutorials and start tracking with TrackX. My jaw dropped the first time I saw this working in my FCP X project. [Read more…]

Watch the 2014 Gulf Photo Plus Shootout w/ Zack Arias and Sara Lando

March 26, 2014 By Eric Reagan

The annual Gulf Photo Plus Shootout never ceases to impress. If you aren’t familiar with past years’ format, “it pits two or three photographers against each other in a room full of photographers and they have to shoot, edit, retouch and present a photo within 20 minutes to a brief that is revealed at the event!”

This year, it was Zack Arias against Italian photographer Sara Lando. And, man, they were both great!

Sony A7 & A7R Review

March 25, 2014 By Eric Reagan

Sony A7R-4

The Sony E-mount system has matured over the past few years and Sony has chosen to retire the NEX branding and consolidate all of its interchangeable lens cameras under the Alpha brand name with a designation only of whether they are A-mount or E-mount cameras.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMc4xgWiJ_Q&w=640&h=360]

The A-mount cameras are more traditional DSLR cameras, currently comprised of cameras using Sony translucent mirror technology. The E-mount cameras are mirrorless cameras and are a generally more compact design.

The Sony A7R and A7 mirrorless cameras are the culmination of the NEX system, which brought about the E-mount. With the new A7 line we finally have affordable, full frame cameras. [Read more…]

Sony A3500 Announced, But Only for Australia

March 25, 2014 By Eric Reagan

Sony A3500

Sony has taken official wraps off of the A3500, which was leaked last week. The camera seems to simply be a rebadge of the current A3000 model with a lower caliber kit lens.

The 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens in the A3000 kit offers image stabilization, while the 18-50mm f/4-5.6 kitted with the A3500 is slower (at f/4 on the wide end) and is not equipped with optical image stabilization.

The A3500 retails for $499AU only in Australia for the time being. Meanwhile the A3000 (with a better lens) remains a ridiculous bargain at $294 for its current sale price and is on backorder because of it. Even when it’s not on sale the A3000 retails for only $399.
