Custom SLR’s ProDot is a Cushion for Your Shutter Release

November 14, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Custom SLR ProDot

Custom SLR is aiming to improve the “feel” of your shutter release with its latest invention – the ProDot.

The ProDot is a textured, press-on dot that adheres to the shutter button in order to provide finite control and finger-padding.  The ProDot was initially crafted to provide photographers a seamless shutter-release free of residual tremors; however, the Custom SLR folks envision a market for all routine button pushers (e.g., mouse buttons). WD Unveils My Book Studio with USB 3.0 and 4TB Capacity

November 13, 2012 By Eric Reagan

WD USB 3 My Book Studio

Western Digital is adding to its My Book Studio line with a new 4TB drive that features a USB 3 interface.  The new unit retains the single drive form factor in 1TB, 2TB, 3TB and 4TB flavors.

The new USB 3 drives are Mac formatted out of the box for compatibility with the newest Macs that now offer USB 3 (of course, they are also backward compatible with USB 2.0).  Accordingly, the new drives are compatible with Apple Time Machine and they offer 256-bit hardware-based encryption for added security against unauthorized access to the drive and its contents.

Pricewise, the My Book Studio 1TB is $159.99; the 2TB is $189.99; the 3TB is $239.99; and the 4TB is $299.99.  The new drives are already available on Western Digital’s website and I expect them to show up soon at B&H Photo.

Laser Cats Meet GoPro

November 13, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Laser Cats Meet GoPro

If you’ve ever had a cat, you’ve almost certainly spent an abnormal amount of time with a laser pointer in your hand as the cat chased it in futility.  GoPro used some cats and laser pointers to show off its new GoPro HERO3 cameras and their powerful slow motion capabilities in its latest commercial, which you can see below.

The new GoPro HERO3: Black Edition serves as the flagship of the new lineup with up to 1440p at 48fps, 1080p at 60fps and 720p at 120fps, all of which aid in the slow motion prowess of the new camera.
