Lexar USB 3.0 SD and CF Card Reader

May 21, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Lexar has launched a new Professional USB 3.0 SD and CF combo card reader.  The USB 3.0 connectivity provides a faster data transfer rate than the USB 2.0 version of this device.  This new reader is compatible with the UDMA CF specs and the SDXC and UHS-I SD card specs, so you shouldn’t have a compatibility issue with any of your memory cards.

The only other USB 3.0 card reader that I’ve seen on the market to date is this one from Delkin.  Now, if we can just get some Thunderbolt-compatible card readers out…

The new Lexar USB 3.0 reader retails for $49.95 and is currently available for pre-order at Adorama.

Check out the video from Jeff Cable, who gives a quick demo and comparison of the new card reader’s speed potential. [Read more…]

I’m not sure what fantasy world Sigma is living in; however, the company just dropped a press release detailing the availability and price of its “46-megapixel” DSLR – the Sigma SD1.  It will be here in June at a whopping price of $9700.

That’s Nine Thousand Seven Hundred Dollars – or roughly the same price as a 2007 Ford Taurus.

I just got my hands on the Fuji X100, and after reading all the praises this APS-C format camera has received for its image quality, I wanted to take a closer look.

Coleman LED Quad Lantern as Cheap Video Lighting Kit

May 18, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Check out this $56 Coleman LED lantern kit, which breaks down into 4 separate LED lights with rechargeable batteries.

Of course, Coleman designed this as a camping accessory; however, it looks like it could work well as a compact remote light setup for video.  Obviously, it’s not for everyone, but if you are looking for a DIY light kit for your budget videos, this might fit the bill.

Check out the video below where the guys from Cameratown give it a go. [Read more…]

Lady Gaga Demands Copyright to Photos Taken at Her Concert

May 18, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Rolling Stone points out photographers’ dilemma going on right now with regard to photographing Lady Gaga’s concerts.  In order to be permitted to shoot the concert, some photographers are required to sign an egregious rights-grab photo release.

There are a couple of provisions that are simply ridiculous from the photographers’ standpoint. [Read more…]
