Philips 28-inch 4K Monitor

4K monitors continue to trickle out as computers and graphics cards come out with better support for these higher resolution displays. Philips’ new 28-inch 4K monitor just became available.

The Philips 288P6LJEB 4K monitor displays a 3840 x 2160 image at 60hz refresh rate with a 1ms response time. It is equipped with HDMI, DisplayPort, Dual-link DVI and VGA SmartConnect ports. Additionally, it features 2 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0 ports for expandability. An integrated MHL port allows you to connect compatible phones and tablets directly to the monitor to mirror content to the display while charging the device at the same time.

The Philips 28″ 4K display retails for $799; however, it is already available at a sale price of $599.99 on Amazon.com.

Canon 5D Mark IV Going 4K? …It’s About Time!

July 9, 2014 By Eric Reagan

5D Mark IV Rumor PB

Before the 5D Mark III was released, we heard rumors that the camera would feature 4K video. Of course, that seems silly now given Canon’s conservative approach in releasing new DSLRs and video products in recent years. And in the Twilight Zone of the camera industry we live in now, Canon is the one that started this whole HDSLR craze after all with a groundbreaking product in the 5D Mark II.

Of course, Canon didn’t know what it had with the 5D Mark II. Canon would have almost certainly neutered it or rebranding the model with a much higher price tag if it knew that it would be the catalyst to the democratization of filmmaking.

The 5D Mark III was released as a very solid camera and a proper successor to the 5D Mark II. Great low light performance, much better AF and a respectable upgrade in the video department. However, it wasn’t groundbreaking. It was a calculated, incremental upgrade. It was solid and it was safe.

In the mean time, Canon has released a series of EOS Cinema cameras geared toward the professional filmmaking and video industry. The C100 currently runs about $5000, while the top-end C500 runs $20,000.

Panasonic GH4 4x Slow Motion and 4K Sample Footage

May 3, 2014 By Eric Reagan

Panasonic GH4

I just got the Panasonic GH4 in for review and, while I haven’t had any time to properly shoot with it, I took the opportunity to shoot a little bit of slow motion footage at 1080/24p and 96fps, as well as a few frames in 4K, while I was prepping my grill last night. Both are shown in the videos below. [Read more…]

Canon EOS 3D Rumors

New rumors suggest a Canon EOS 3D will launch later this year as a “bigger brother” to the Canon 5D Mark III.
