Android Camera Apps

April 12, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Android Camera Apps

The following post on Android camera apps was written by amateur photographer Erik Hawkinson. Learn more about Erik at the end of this post.

Searching for “camera” on the Location Formerly Known as the Android Market (now known as Google Play) yields over 1000 results. Obviously, not all of them are camera apps but there are still a lot of choices of which one to use. I am going to evaluate five different camera apps I have used. Each has its place, but not all of them are what I normally have on my phone. [Read more…]

Polaroid SC1630 Hands-On

January 11, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Polaroid SC1630

The Polaroid SC1630 is a new Android-based camera that was unveiled at CES 2012.  I had a chance to check it out up close and get a little taste of its performance.

I found it more than a little ironic that Polaroid would produce a camera that looks and feels like a phone while other manufacturers are fighting to differentiate the point and shoot camera from smart phones.

Polaroid SC1630

Even more intriguing is the fact that the Polaroid SC1630 offers a SIM-card slot, along with a speaker and mic that make it possible to use it as a phone. [Read more…]

Flickr Releases Android App

September 29, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Flickr Android App

Flickr has released a new Android app, which is a free download from the Android Market Place.  The new app features a built-in camera, upload integration with Flickr, Facebook, Twitter and others, and geotagging.  It also offers access to Flickr organizational features and groups (although, I’m seeing limited options for any serious organizational features so far).

You can find it in the Android Market here.

Eye-Fi Direct Mode = Wireless Tethering to iPad, iPhone or Android Devices

April 21, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Eye-Fi has flipped the switch on a new Direct Mode for Eye-Fi X2 WiFi SD cards.  Using these new cards with corresponding Apps, you can now instantly transmit images to your iOS or Android devices.

Direct Mode offers the flexibility of anywhere. After a quick set up, take photos wherever you are – then when you’re ready to transfer, just turn your camera on and let Eye-Fi do the rest. The Eye-Fi X2 card will create its own Wi-Fi network and transfer to the free iPhone/iPad or Android app. No matter where you are, you’ll get your photos and videos on your device in no time. –Eye-Fi

You can read more about Eye-Fi’s Direct Mode on the product page and the FAQ.  You can find Eye-Fi X2 cards at Amazon.com and B&H Photo.
