Sony A33 and A55 Promo Images Leak Out

August 18, 2010 By Eric Reagan

It looks like the Sony A55 and A33 have leaked out into the open via a Chinese forum. Recall that the Sony A55 and A33 are rumored to be just two of four DSLRs that are impending release (the other two being the A560 and A580), all of which supposedly will feature the ability to capture AVCHD movie footage.

As you will see in the following images, the swivel LCD looks to remedy one of the features that I have taken issue with in previous Sony DSLR models – that being the ability to move the LCD when shooting in portrait orientation.

Check out the rest of the images below. [Read more…]

Canon EOS 7DSV (Studio Version) Announced

August 17, 2010 By Eric Reagan

Canon has announced the EOS 7DSV DSLR, which is being dubbed as the Studio Version of the popular EOS 7D.  The new 7DSV features four levels of locking camera controls geared toward school and event photographers.  These locking controls allows an administrator to set up the camera and prevent an operator from changing critical settings, such as in school and event portraits.

Additionally, the Canon 7DSV features the Canon Barcode Solution, which allows customer, organizational, patient or other data to be embedded into the EXIF data of each image.  Ultimately, this barcode functionality should be a boon to large organization or event photographers looking for help on the backend of file organization and management.

The Canon 7DSV Studio Version kit includes a firmware modified version of the Canon WFT-E5A, which can be used in conjuntion with a barcode reader to manage image and customer data via a wired connection.  However, it is possible to work wirelessly using the Canon BU-30 Bluetooth adapter.  Existing WFT-E5A units can be modified by Canon to work with the 7DSV in this functionality.

The 7DSV kit with the WFT-E5A carries an initial retail price of $2599, while the 7DSV body alone is priced at $1829.

More details in the press release below. [Read more…]

Sony A900 USB Flash Drive

August 13, 2010 By Eric Reagan

Not to be outdone by the Canon 5D Mark II USB flash drive, there’s now a replica of a Sony A900 as a USB flash drive.  MICgadget.com says they will set you back about $29 USD in China for 4GB of storage, but I haven’t found any retailers that’ll ship these to the US yet.

Let us know in the comments if you find these for sale.

(UPDATE: Tracked down, and available here for $19. Thanks Phil.)

The very popular (and colorful) Pentax K-x has received another series of color treatment updates, and is now available in pink, chocolate, olive and beige.

You can see the entire lineup of the K-x rainbow at the Pentax US webstore ($650 for body and lens).

PluralEyes Review

August 12, 2010 By Eric Reagan

This is for all of you guys out there trying your hand at working with DSLR video.

If you’ve tried working with multiple video and audio tracks in a non-linear editor, then you know what a challenge that it can be to sync up the audio wave forms among different tracks.  It’s not necessarily hard to do manually, but it can be tedious and time consuming when you start piling on cameras and audio-recording sources.

Enter Singular Software’s PluralEyes.
