Nikon D4 and D400 Due Next Month

June 28, 2011 By Eric Reagan

In what could be the biggest camera launch of the year, one of Nikon Rumors’ sources has tipped the launch of the Nikon D4 and D400 for August.

Given the coming Sony A77 with a 24MP sensor, it is most likely that the D400 will sport the same 24MP APS-C sensor but labeled with the ubiquitous “Developed by Nikon” asterisk seen in recent Nikon pro-DSLR specs.  The D400 will almost certainly feature 1080p video to follow the recent trend of Nikon DSLRs.  Hopefully, the D400 will avoid the cumbersome aperture adjustment problem that made the Nikon D7000 more frustrating for video capture.

As for the Nikon D4, [Read more…]

The 10 Best Photography Products of 2011 . . . So Far

June 21, 2011 By Eric Reagan

1. Fuji X100

I don’t think I’ve had more fun with a camera since I first held the 5D Mark II.  Sure, it’s got some quirks, but the excellent image quality and amazing flash sync speed push the Fuji X100 into the front runner position as my personal pick for camera of the year.  We’ll see what the rest of the year holds; however, it will take some serious innovation to unseat the X100.  Find it at B&H Photo (when it’s in stock). Quotable: “The Future Of Photography Is Convergence”

June 19, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Over at A Photo Editor, there’s an interesting interview with Vincent Laforet concerning the future of photography.  In it he discusses where these photo and video cameras are heading, including how new technology will affect the vision required to capture “the decisive moment.”

Here’s what’s important, if you can shoot 120 frames or 96 frames per second at a high resolution, it removes one of the single most difficult aspects of being a photographer, which is to capture the “decisive moment.”

Head on over to A Photo Editor the the complete interview.

AjRichard.com Scam Shop . . . or One More Reason to Stick with B&H, Adorama & Amazon

June 17, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Nasiv Mansurov has a great article that sheds some light on yet another bait and switch photo retailer operation.  I know everyone wants to find the best deals on camera gear, and folks are having a hard time finding popular gear in stock since the Japan earthquake earlier this year.  However, Nasiv’s investigation into AjRicard.com (aka scam shop) after his buddy ordered a 5D Mark II from the site should serve as a reminder that “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.” [Read more…]
