Blogging Basics for Photographers: Blogging Software and Services

December 21, 2009 By Eric Reagan

Blogging Basics For Photographers - Part 2

In this second article of the series, we’re going to delve into some of the popular blogging platforms and try to come up with a good picture of what software and services make sense for the blogging photographer.

Other articles in this Blogging Basics for Photographers series:

1. Deciding Whether to Start a Blog for Your Photography
2. Blogging Software and Services
3. Web Hosting and Blog Set Up

From the top, I’ll let you know that this article (and series, in general) will be heavily biased toward WordPress as a blogging platform.  This is what I know and use, and I think that it’s the best all-around blogging platform out there.  That said, there are plenty of other great blogging services and software available, and we’ll take a look at them below.  I invite any photo bloggers out there to chime in with your thoughts on these or other blogging platforms in the comment section at the bottom of this article.  Moving on now… [Read more…]

Mustang Time Lapse Video Revisited

December 20, 2009 By Eric Reagan

Some of you may recall the above time lapse video from the dash view of my Ford Mustang as part of my review time with the Nikon D5000.  The D5000 offers an interval shooting mode that you can set up directly in the camera without tethering to a computer, which is required for the Canon counterpart.  The original post is here and here’s the full Nikon D5000 Review.

I have had a few questions lately about the details of the settings I used and thought I’d take the time to revisit the setup here. [Read more…]

December 20, 2009 By Eric Reagan

Samsung NX10

Update: As of 1/4/10, the Samsung NX10 has been officially announced. For additional details, click here.

The Samsung NX 30mm f/2 lens has leaked out onto the Pentax Forums.  The image in this thread reveals the expected pancake form factor of the 30mm lens with a 43mm filter thread.  According to the poster, the leaked image was supposedly captured with a Samsung NX10 and 18-55mm lens.

Other loosely “confirmed” lenses include the aforementioned 18-55mm zoom and a 55-200mm zoom lens.

What I Want for Christmas and Why…

December 19, 2009 By Eric Reagan

This post is a little further off-topic than I usually stray; however, it’s the weekend and I thought it might be fun to share my wish list with all of you, and maybe you can do the same in the comments.  Obviously, these items are subject to my personal taste and preferences, so take all of this with a grain of salt.  If you’re looking for some meaningful photography content, just skip this altogether. Sony A550 Review

December 17, 2009 By Eric Reagan

Sony A550

The Sony A550 is a 14.2-megapixel DSLR that boils down to a more expensive entry-level camera.  As with other Sony Alpha DSLRs, the A550 features a built-in stabilization system that uses sensor-shift functions rather than lens-based stabilization.  As a result, every lens you attach to the camera benefits from image stabilization – as opposed to Canon and Nikon, for which you must buy “stabilized lenses” that can be more expensive.

Another familiar feature on the Sony A550 is the articulating LCD screen.  Like the lower-level models, the A330 and A380, the A550’s LCD will tilt up and down, allowing you to hold the camera up high or down low and still be able to easily see the LCD screen.

A tilting LCD screen wouldn’t be much use without the ability to compose your scene on it.  Again, the A550 offers the same Live View system that I have loved since it was originally introduced on the A300 and A350.  In my opinion, no one does DSLR Live View better than Sony.  It just works intuitively and feels very natural for those moving from point and shoot cameras.
