Sony Image Sensor Size Comparison

Above is another one of the cool tech displays from Sony’s booth at CES. It shows the sensor size comparison for Sony cameras starting with a compact camera with a 1/2.3″ sensor on the right side and moving up to a full frame size sensor on the left side.

As many of you know, the full frame Sony 35mm sensor is found in the Sony A7 Series and the A99 SLT camera. The APS-C sensor is found in cameras like the Sony A6000 and A5100. Sony is using the CX Format nomenclature for 1″ sensors like what is found in the Sony RX100 and RX10.

So you get a new camera. What do you do as soon as it comes out of the box? Find a friend or family member to stand in for your first round of test shots.

Ever wonder how your non-photographer friends and family members think about being your stand-in? Now we know thanks to Jon Cole’s very witty (and likely spot-on) rendition of the camera test from the subject’s perspective.

On the technical side, we did get a nice look at some Slog2 footage from the new Sony FS7 and the Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 lens.

Tamron SP 15-30mm f2.8 Di VC Lens

Tamron has released its new SP 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD lens for Canon, Nikon and Sony A mounts. Note, however, that the Sony A-mount version does not include the VC motor for image stabilization.

The lens offers full frame coverage with XGM and LD glass elements in the front group to minimize chromatic aberrations, along with Tamron’s eBAND and BBAR coatings to reduce ghosting and flare. It has a 9-blade aperture and features a built-in lens hood.

Sony Unveils 4K Camcorder for $1K at CES 2015

4K was definitely a prominent buzzword at CES this year; however, it is so common now that is not quite as buzz-worthy on consumer products as it has been in the past couple of years. Holy cow! 2014 blew right by us. There were so many great new cameras and photo gear accessories released in 2014. Just a couple that stick out are the Sony A7S and Panasonic GH4, which were the first two real 4K-capable prosumer cameras to hit the market.
