Atmosphere Aerosol Gives You Instant Haze for Making Light Rays

November 11, 2015 By Eric Reagan

Atmosphere-Aerosol-2

What makes a great backlight even better? How about some fog or haze? But what if there is no fog or haze at your location?

Fog and haze machines are awesome for creating rays of light in your images but they are not very portable. And that’s part of the motive behind Knoxville-based photographers Joe and Kathleen Atkins’ desire to put haze in a can. [Read more…]

The Epson ET-4550 Printer’s Ink Lasts for 2 Years

November 10, 2015 By Eric Reagan

Epson WorkForce ET-4550 EcoTank All-in-One Printer

Can I get a show of hands of those who print black and white, draft quality documents in order to save printer ink?

Epson has an All-in-One printer with an ink supply that lasts 2 years before you need to buy more – the Epson WorkForce ET-4550 EcoTank printer.

The printer ships with enough ink to print up to 11,000 black pages or 8,500 color pages. Epson says this is equivalent to about 50 ink cartridge sets from a traditional ink jet printer.

Where’s my photo printer with a 2-year ink supply? [Read more…]

Watch What Happens When You Ask Non-Creative Professionals to Work for Free

November 5, 2015 By Eric Reagan

Toronto advertising agency Zulu Alpha Kilo created this video to demonstrate how absurd it is for people to ask for the advertising industry to do spec work in hopes of getting more business. As described by AdWeek, “a guy approaches real men and women (not actors) in other businesses and asks them to provide him with a product or service for free, to see if he likes it before committing to more.”

While they are talking about advertising gigs, this 100% applies to other creative industries as well – including photographers. [Read more…]

Check out the $59 RØDE VideoMicro Compared to Built-in DSLR Mic

November 5, 2015 By Eric Reagan

Rode VideoMicro

YouTuber ThePapadumGeek just posted a hands-on review of the new RØDE VideoMicro and compares is to the built-in camera mic as well as the VideoMic Pro and NTG-2. Check it out below.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DoXoY2O1SI&w=700&showinfo=0&rel=0]

As he points out, there are no batteries or on-switch for this mic. If it’s plugged in, you are recording audio. This is a simple and basic mic in a much smaller package than what we saw with the RØDE VideoMic GO from a couple years ago.

For a $59 mic, it sounds great. If you record video at all with your camera, you officially have no excuse for crappy audio in your videos. You can find the RØDE VideoMicro here at B&H Photo.
